*Mega High Fives You* YES! Someone knows! :D Yup there's always been coywolves. Coyotes have a bad habbit of mating with non-coyotes and this produces such creatures. It used to be a huge problem with the red wolf population (which they've been trying to rebuild in far eastern US) because their purity as a breed was dwindling with all the inter-breeding between the red wolves and the coyotes.
Yup. They were actually considered invasive and you were allowed to openly hunt them.
Coywolves, and coy dogs were considered more dangerous to people due to their lack of natural fear.
Yea like 95°% of red wolf population isn't pure anymore
Oooh! I had no idea they've been hunted before but that very much makes sense. With something that's a great percentage wolf and no longer fearful of man that creates avenues for negative interactions between the animals and people nearby. I've seen videos though of some folks who purposely antagonize these critters into attacking so I think some of the interaction isn't quite the animal's fault.
I wonder if they're going to start breeding the remaining pure red wolves in captivity far away from coyote populations? There's a maned wolf population being sustained at the Smithsonian so I suppose anything is possible.
Yea. It's more or less a threat when they're in heavily human populated areas and in people's yards.
People for the majority are unaware of how to deal with these animals. Normal animal instinct is to flee from a human. These animals, since they often have dog in them, lack a large majority.
I hope they are able. I feel a few sanctuaries have succeeded, but the aspect of introducing them back and the blood line staying pure is not favorable.
Many people in those areas who snare, or hunt coyote.. don't know the difference of a red wolf and a coyote.
I might just look into making a character like that. ^-^
I find the article interesting due to the fact they may classify wolves, dogs and coyotes as a same species.

It's very unfortuante.
It IS cute though. Also, apparently they're omnivores...interesting.
