Well then just a nice quiet time spent with each other. I know me and my mate rarely get each other to ourselves nowadays, so my idea of a romantic evening is us snuggling naked and just ignoring the outside world for a night.

You can't go wrong with a big steak at a nicer restaurant. Arrange beforehand for some desert with "12" written in chocolate syrup etc. Go take a walk at night to where you first met ... or something like that.

I think the simple things can mean just as much or more. Something you both enjoy.

That's kind of a tough question. The biggest thing you can do in terms of sentimental crap though is to personalize the evening to your special someone's likes though. Romantic dinners and moonlight walks ain't always for everyone XD My suggestion is to take one specific aspect of what they love and make a night themed around that. Shows how much you care, how well you know them, and they appreciate it a lot more than the usual fares. ;3
