I've heard lots of criticism towards the game so I'm very hesitant on buying it.

A lot of it is contrived. The graphics being lower than most this gen has a reason. Not to mention they weren't tricking anyone by playing it with superior graphics than before.

Basically its either senseless griping or people making up issues.

What Bethesda has done with Fallout 4 is craft an epic story. They fought eachother as to how to craft it for years, eventually all deciding on the best parts and moving forward. With only so many years, they put themselves into creating a world that is engaging, above all else. The rest of the remaining time, they pour themselves over the art, the graphics. If they could put as much time into the graphics as they did the story, they would be equally amazing together. Though that kind of wait would almost kill the series, the time it would take. Bethesda would rather craft a story that stays in your mind, because beauty is just superficial.

Also, wait a bit and there will be 4k textures and mesh object improvement mod... Because the fans of graphics like you want, will create the ones you want to see.

If you liked previous fallouts/elder scrolls I think you would love this one. Still mehh about the new dialogue system though

It is a change for the series, how it feels and plays. So there are bound to be those who don't like that change.

I made my chracter look like Colonel Sanders, the Kentucky Fried Chicken founder... XD My weapons are named things like "Biscuits & Gravy" "The Bucket" and "Fried 3 Piece Meal" "The Winger" and all those horribly punny names....

...now I need to get a sniper rifle, get all the damage boosting mods and perks for it, and name it "Avada Kedavra".

It is an great game so far!

I'd love to try it, but my computer is pretty old, I'm not sure it could run it at all...

the story makes you feel the decisions youve make in the game really well done

I'm also having to play on low, but it still looks good, and yeah...fantastic game.
