Hello, everyone! I know I haven't been the most active here, but between work, play, relationship, and fighting gov't, I've been pretty busy!
So...I know people can find offence in everything nowadays, but I really hope that someone can help me out here, because I legitimately would like someone to help me understand.
So...here goes...
I was thinking lately (odd, I know) about how stereotypical gender norms are something our community (everyone, be it furry, LGBT, etc.) advocates against. You know, generally saying that because you're a girl, you don't have to wear a dress/you aren't less of a woman for not wearing one—and so on.
I think we're good there, right?
Now...I'm really asking, and I hope someone can help and I don't make people mad, it's not my intention at all. (╥﹏╥) I just think someone can help. 0ω0
So...what confuses me is how transgendered people stick to these stereotypes, and why, when they do, it's okay to be stereotypical gender norm.
Like...I've never seen an M2F that didn't wear really feminine clothes, or not wear make-up, or not have long hair. All the things that are supposed to be "female".
It just confuses me, is all...one second people say women don't have to wear dresses, then they say to be a woman you do...
I hope someone can help.
I'm sorry if I offend someone...I was always told it's better to ask, so...

Just my uneducated idea: maybe they follow the steryotypes to make it obvious that they're trans and not at all like what people expect. If a guy wears a dress the social norm thinks he is either strange...or maybe trans? IDK. Its a confusing topic.
As for trans people, the ideas around use of gender and what it means is something still being discussed. Some feel it's sorted, for better or for worse, and others see it as being anomalous enough in our evolving world to need further discussion. I think there are plenty of trans people who indeed don't use lots of stereotypes for their gender, even more so when you consider agender people who don't identify as either gender.
Like, taking your dresses example, while a woman doesn't have to ever wear a dress to be considered a woman, some may argue conforming to the gender norms by wearing one as a woman is counter-productive to gender equality.
In the end I think it's just about what makes people most comfortable.
