Liger Watc. Trailers!

Well I just saw the new trailers for both Star Trek Beyond and Independence Day Resurgence and I feel the need to talk about them! So here we go.
Star Trek

Ok I really wasn't expecting this trailer. Hell I wasn't even sure if there was going to even BE another StarTrek movie as I hadn't heard any news on it since before Nimoy's death a while back. The last thing I heard was that they wanted to bring in Shatner for a meeting of Old Spock and old Kirk and that Simon Pegg would be directing. Now I see this and it still credits Abrams as Producer. Which takes a lil hope out of this for me. The first reboot movie was.... Well it wasn't good but it wasn't horrible. The second, Into Darkness, sucked VERY hard. I mean space itself doesn't even suck that hard. XD
"But what about this one?" Well I'm not sure what to think about it. I get the feeling that the how Enterprise being destroyed thing we see in the trailer will happen near the very start of the movie and on one hand I kind of hate that as it seems most of this movie will be centered on the planet they get stuck on with no space. But other Trek stuff has managed that before. The new alien species we see in the trailer does look nice and I'm trying to figure if they are indeed a new species or Abram's take on an existing species. After all his Klingons in the last movie looked a lot different. I think there may be some potential here but the last movie was such a blow I have trouble trusting this one. I don't think this one will be nearly as bad as Into Darkness was given it's doing it's own thing and that's a lot of what saved the first one. It wasn't trying to be an imitation of something better. All and all it has some potential but who who knows if it'll grab that potential.

This was another one I wasn't expecting but wasn't quite as shocked to see. I've seen more on this one in the works than I had the Trek one but still. This one looks....Ok I can't hide it this one looks awesome! I'm not expecting hard science from this but the fact that we get to see the aftermath of what is our typical alien invasion type scenario is pretty damn cool all by itself. I saw someone in the comments on it say it looked like XCOM and I gotta agree it does yet I can't help but like that. Another thing is I really do like seeing all these actors reprising their roles. Though I dare say it'd have been nice if Will Smith would have reprised his but oh well the actor they got to play his son seems to be enjoying the role and I like him. ^^ I also saw a handful of other actors who I've seen as good supporting characters in other scifi and such during the trailer. All and all this one looks like it's going to be pretty fun.
It's kinda funny that I"m more excited to see the Independence Day movie than the Trek one. And I know a lot of people will point out maybe that their both big budget action scifi and why am I so happy to see ID when I'm not so happy to see the same from Trek? And truthfully a number of the other trek films have been action romps. I think the differences is that Trek has had a long history of reflection and being at least a bit thought provoking both on the small and big screens. Each of the TNG movies despite how good or bad they were did have interesting stuff going on with the characters and a consistent theme. Of course that was helped largely by the fact that these were familiar characters. Just like the TOS films these movies came AFTER their respective series and thusly we already had reason to care about these characters. The New films not so much. Sure the names are the same and a few qualities but these are fundamentally different people than the TOS crew and Abrams doesn't feel like he's using Trek lore to it's fullest. There's plenty in there to draw upon for inspiration and do something new with but he doesn't do that. Meanwhile ID feels like it's really connecting with the first film and at least from the trailer it does feel like a natural progression from the first one. Beyond that it feels like a lot more care and fun went into this film. It just feels like there's better writing there and that everyone is enjoying their job.
Oh well though I guess we'll see. So what do you guys think of the trailers? Which movies are you most looking forward to seeing?

They cut Will Smiths character out of ID: Resurgence because apparently he was asking waaaaaay to much to reprise his role as Hillard, especially considering his recent filmography hasn't been very good in terms of movie sales. But they also gave him a crappy write-off for the character's death as well.

Hard to blame them for that though considering like you said the exorbitant amount he was asking. And yeah his latest films have not been good. After Earth was Horrible and that was essentially his best shot at writing scifi proving that Smith can't write scifi. I could raddle off a list of problems with it as long as my arm. XD

Have you heard about star trek renegades, it's like an independent fan series but they have a high budget and have a lot of actors from the series like Tuvok.

Funny you mention it. I came across it on youtube yesterday and well....I couldn't sit through too much of it. The new bad guy aliens don't have the best looking make up and they feel a bit like a copy of the Klingons with some Jem Hadar in there. Personally though I've taken a shine to another independent fan work. Star Trek Axanar which uses some actors from Trek reprising their roles and just some generally good actors. Sooooo awesome they got Tony Todd to be an Admiral. ^^ The film's not out yet but there's a scene on Vulcan up and an in universe Documentary thing titled Prelude to Axanar which is pretty awesome. ^^
