Dog Project

This is my own personal quest. No, I do not own a dog. For months I have been working on drawing dogs- and there are piles upon piles of sketches to prove this. My aim is to draw them perfectly and from memory, which I do with a ballpoint pen at work when I am bored. The dogs I draw are of all types but my aim here is to draw the Archetypical Dog. You know it in your head, but here are the Rules:
-normal size and shape of dog
-no deformities
-no docked tails or ears
-no bizarre features period
-any natural color or pattern
-ears are allowed to be droopy or perky
-small amount of muzzle sagging allowed, but not preferred
-short hair
-dewclaws on forelegs only
-NO bearded muzzles
-Collars are allowed but NO clothing.
So if it looks like a pariah dog or a trim hound it counts. Retrievers usually work for this. I am looking for the type of dog you would find in Ancient Rome or Ancient India or whatever runs stray. In my searching I have learned what nature sees as the default dog but I am not strict on that. It should look like the feral packs I saw running around in San Antonio Texas but without injuries.
No one is paying me to draw these, like I said it is a labor of love. Much like the cow-drawing obsession of 2004, which people may have found irritating but I was inspired. So if you don't hate my dog sketches I plan on uploading more here, and eventually I will settle on the One Perfect Dog or something. Who knows. But if things work out this could end up being a lot of fun.

Of course, I'll suggest Shelties. :)

American strays seem to be a lot more pitbulls and other first generation strays, so I think you'll have better luck in places like Europe or South and Central America for the more feral look (uh, "feral" in the non-furry fandom definition).
I love pommies.

Anyway if you are looking, I know a great blog of someone who owns two Pariah dogs (one from rural Africa, one from streets of India). The blog is streetdogmillionaires.tumblr.com She also is really knowledgeable about Pariah dogs and re-posts a lot of other Pariah dogs and Pariah-dog writeups. May be a good reference blog to look through :)
I had Australian Cattle Dogs for years. They have a sort of smooth, archetypal look, since there's a lot of Dingo in the breed. My first Cattle Dog, Brynna was as close as you could get to a wild animal without a special permit.
My Australian Kelpie Sydney, was a Little Brown Dog (LBD) much like the street curs or ancient times.
I currently have Lady Camilla, who is about as doggy a dog as I've had. Cami's outrageous pattern aside, her half-mast ears are both perky and droopy!
