Hello Watchers, New and Old! What You Can Expect This Year
9 years ago
Hello All,
This is just a little something something since I haven't had a personal update in a while. Whether you've been a longtime follower or just jumped onto the Defiance bandwagon, welcome to the party!
My usual content is story-telling in the drama/fantasy genre, and I love experimenting with new mediums (webcomics, animations, videos, and so on) to bring my ideas to life. I'm still amidst painstakingly organizing my gallery into easy-to-navigate folders, so don't mind the clutter.
Now for some bad news, I am afraid you won't be expecting much in terms of new, serious content to my universe this year. All plans for world domination have come to a screeching slow as my Ph.D. research requires a near fulltime dedication. You didn't hear much from me near the last half of 2015 because I was terribly crushed by the stresses of life, and a creeping personal guilt over how, for the first time, I didn't have the energy to continue regular updates on my characters and worlds. It is no secret that I've always wanted fame and glory for my characters and that I try my damndest hardest (yall) to achieve it. Despite the warnings I was pushing myself too hard, first migraines I had ever experienced last year and barely making it to the bathroom for mental breakdowns in school, I began to feel like I was all talk and no show. I was hard on myself for days then weeks then months of great ideas in my head and a muse that refused to put them out. I felt like not being able to keep up with the pace of other fantastic creators out there meant I was incompetent: I did not deserve attention for the things I had already made because not-updated work is obsolete work; and that obsoleteness would fall into obscurity.
Despite not updating in what feels like a year, I still kept getting fan letters; I still kept getting fan content. Guys, I want you to know that even a simple "thank you" to a creator means a lot. You helped me realize that I've already left a positive lasting imprint in the hearts and minds of many. And that when I'm ready to pick up the pen again, it will not be the uphill struggle it was to first get off the ground.
I don't know when I'll be ready to jump into regularly creating again. But, until then, please enjoy the creative works of others COMING SOON to my gallery; for now, the adventure lives on in fellow producers I am blessed to call fans backstage, waiting for the thumbs-up to part the curtains for their own incredible project-babies (No spoilers but you're gonna love them!)
Thank you for bearing with me, thank you for following me anyways when the rainbow inkwell runs dry, thank you for the kind notes and the fanfictions and fan art that keep Nyxis and company right on living when my own pen cannot. I suppose sometimes conditions dictate that even the most firework-rockstars of bards must don an earthen cape and disappoof into the crowd. I'll try to relax for once; stop and smell the roses, be a player instead of a dungeon master, ACTUALLY enjoy video games instead of just researching them... xD But hey, I'll be back. The call of adventure kindles the fire in this one.
Cheers from a seemingly new background character you just happened to prompt for flavor text,
~Lorraine "Defiance" Lin
~Nyxis Joanne Pierce
