[UPDATE] Bowie, new projects and other things.
Heya,
I have a number of things I'd like to cover, and in attempt to keep you all up to date I'm hoping to do at least one journal per month, especially now that I'm trying to run everything in a more professional manner instead of just being some side-job.
First of all, let me reflect for a moment on the passing of the much loved hero that was David Bowie. It's been a week already and I'm sure most people have moved on, but seeing all the tributes and memorials for him it's hard to say that such an influential figure will ever really be forgotten. Bowie was more than a musician, in that he sought to push his craft beyond what anyone could have ever imagined. I'm sure to many people he wasn't much more than a seldom-spoken of name, but he was such an inspiration for so many more and a strong contribution to the arts. Much the same goes for the late Alan Rickman (who I admired in his roles outside of the Harry Potter movies more so). I can go on for many long paragraphs to discuss their artist integrity and talent, but I have so much more to do.
In hearing the news of Bowie's passing, I felt a sense of disbelief and a moment later such a strong motive to pursue my work. When it comes to personal aspirations, or most general life things I can take a long time to come round, but this year is going to be something else. I want to follow my fine art career, I want become and illustrator, I want to write fiction and fantasy and eventually turn that into animation. Last year I produced a small body of seven digital pieces, all of which were in preparation for FurDU (for those of you unfamiliar, Furry Down Under is currently one of Australia's biggest conventions). Although it was a few months in the works, I finished all my drawings with a few days to spare before my partner and I left for the convention. I ended up selling enough to cover both our air fares and accommodation. As of yet I don't know if I will be doing it again this year, but I'm more than committed to producing lots of new work and perfecting my skills.
That said, I've already established myself on RedBubble where I will be selling shirt designs (it's a temporary set up until I have my own website up and I can find a cheaper, more income earning venue). I have yet to find a online seller for prints that offer a fair commission, but if any of you have an idea where would be a good place to start do let me know! Alongside that I will be setting up my fine art and illustration side-by-side in hopes to further promote my work as something that is multi-disciplinary. Whilst I'm learning to use Adobe Muse I'm also willing to go to anyone with some commercial experience in site design to help in producing something with me, as it could be months before I'll be able to have something up of my own (in between applying for exhibitions and grants, I'll be tossing up my time between illustrating and painting so I can't say I'll have much time to do things outside of that).
Anyway, to conclude if anyone knows of any good printing services (that have an international market, not just in the Americas) I'm all ears! For the time being, please find me on RB @ DeusExMoose: www.redbubble.com/people/deusexmoose

I'll miss Alan Rickman too. Sense and Sensibility might be my favorite role of his.
