Brainstorming some narrative ideas for 2017 game
9 years ago
I gathered it would be a fun activity for anyone interested to share ideas for next years game. Most characters are hopefully going to be furry/anthropomorphic with only the main protagonist/few minor characters being human. The game will play very similar to fire emblem where throughout your adventure you gradually build a large following of fighters rallying behind a single cause. There are no plans to produce the game until 2017 and after current projects are completed. This is just for fun!
I wanted to avoid some tropes while forming the scenario:
- Avatar 2.0 (Humans travel to a luscious planet inhabited by tribal furries for it's resources)
- Plop n' drop (Humans accidentally cross dimensions/universe into a furry world.)
- No explanation (Humans and furries co-exist just because)
Here's an exposition I thought up based on a genetic tampering theme. Let me know what you think! I feel it might rely too heavily on science to try and explain everything.
Imagine the start of the game takes place in a futuristic altar with a few people dressed in religious robes. The leader then monologues the following with some storyboards:
A few hundred years ago, breakthroughs in technology have allowed humans to artificially select the genetic traits for their children. Within decades, children were being born with no family history of disease.
With life expectancies at an all time high, the world quickly accepted genetic modification as the social norm, making it an affordable practice for the betterment of mankind around the globe.
Humans lust for the perfect form quickly became intoxicating. Borrowing the positive traits from other species and applying them to their offspring. What it meant to be human was quickly lost in time.
As the definition of mankind blurred, so did peace among people. Infertility fueled a generation of racism. Decades of war decimated the population, all in the name of genetic perfection. What remains beyond these walls are ravaged by the inhumanity of humanity.
Make no mistake my children, our numbers cannot survive another hundred years of isolation. The time to strike back against the sins of man is now. The abominations that roam our tainted holy land have long lost their souls and must be purged.
Summary: You are one of the last of a lineage of regular humans. The lands inhabit furries and creatures of all shapes and skillsets but are separated due to conflict. The primarily goal of the game is to bring heroic furries together and either help the protagonist distance themselves from zealous origins, or go full renegade at the last moment for a darker epilogue.
Please let me know of how shitty/good this idea is and whether you would like to provide your own ideas for such a game!

IE a human and a full-animal will TYPICALLY result in a half-animal, but it may lean 60/40 or 70/30 in either direction due to RNG. In general, if both parents exhibit more animal or human pieces then the offspring will inherit more of that as well. Someone who was the result of mostly-human parents with some animal traits may come off looking more like a neko-boy/girl; someone who had mostly animal parents may end up looking more like a bipedal wolf. Finally, enough breeding with one specific species will eventually phase out the traits of the other; if a family line began ONLY mating with humans then eventually their offspring would just stop exhibiting animal traits altogether.
Similar to how magic/muggles works in the Harry Potter Universe. It would also provide a source of tension between human/animal races as many people know the 'dirty truth' behind how the hybridization even started, but few are comfortable talking about it. ("You filthy animal-breeder!" "You're the mistaken child of a philanderer.")
Plus, your main audience is the furry fandom. We literally just sat through a comic about dogfucking that had mountains of praise heaped onto it.
Sure, but not all of the furry fandom is here for that. I avoided that comic, as others did too.
Again, not trying to start anything here, just curious
I love the art on here, porn or otherwise because people are very creative ^^
I'll try and see what I can think of, but If I may suggest a focus on the 2-D Sprite Fire Emblems like Blazing Sword (released as Fire Emblem in the US) and Sacred Stones. that would be a LOT easier to manage artwork and animation-wise, only requiring full busts for dialogue scenes and the animation on those tend to be pretty bare-bones in the 2D FEs. but the Sprite work in the 2D Fire Emblem games is AMAZING, especially with the Combat and those Criticals man... GOT to love those Crit animations...
I know that I for one, If prices don't get crazy-inflated like the last option (no hate just, wow... that got up there fast) I would personally love getting thrown in even as a minor character, and I'm sure a LOT of furs would feel similar. and Fire Emblem themselves are rather known for giving you SCORES of characters to work with it could be a fairly good way to fund the game.
I'll try and see what I can think of to brainstorm/suggest/spark ideas of your own, but that's just my 2 cents for now.
Even so, standalone pieces of that animation variety (Idle, Dodge, Attack, Critical) would be amazing to have even on their own. I've seen fan-made characters in that regard on the Fire Emblem Modding community, but a standalone piece that's just an homage to it (Even better if said animations are completely usable IN a (GBA) Fire Emblem Mod/Hack) would be bloody awesome and I'd drop money on that in a heartbeat
c.c... so.. yea
It seems like everyone has the same chances for all genetic modification, and becomming a Furry is more a choice of physical appearance then everything else.
So how about if only the upper-class was able to get genetic modification, or used genetic modification to create a new kind of working class/Slaves?
It's easier to explain why this "Utopian World" failed if you split Humanity at the beginning of your story.
Another way to explain the racism if something with the genetic modifications went wrong, and it became some kind of "Virus", randomly mutating Humans at the beginning giving some Humans traits of animals who a considered as "strong" or "beautiful" who began to treat Humans bad, who where immune to the "Virus" or got traits of animals who a considered as "weak" or "to ugly.
Just a suggestion. ^-^
Edit:
Damn I'm posting far to slow today, when I wrote this only Kilbey & PommyN64 had postet before me. Γ_Γ
We already have a competent dialogue tree program designed for Amorous that we can re-use in a more primitive fashion for this game. Dialogue in these kinds of games in infrequent and sparse. You can go from acquaintances to love interest in only a few paragraphs of dialogue.
I've been carefully evaluating the various aspects of how the game will need to be developed and so far, things appear optimistic and plausible.
Now, what I have my doubts about is the distinctly dystopian theme that is hinted at here. I think making the idea of having furry-humans around the cause of the end of the world/end of mankind might be a bit too much and would be putting too much attention on the gap between human and furry. I am not saying that there should not be a gap, far from it, I absolutely think there should be racism involved, but I don't think it should be the main focus of the story. Especially for us furries, I feel like distancing ourselves from humans is a way too common theme and we tend to take the differences between man and animal way too serious. So while I think that kind of racism should definitely be a part of the narrative, I think there are probably way more creative ideas to use as the main plot point.
Thanks for reading :) I really like the idea and I think it sounds promissing so far.
I'm not entirely sure if I should say it here or if you'd prefer a private conversation about it. I'd personally prefer a private conversation. Though I understand if you'd prefer not to crowd up things.
But I'd still be happy to explain here if you'd prefer.
Anyhow, you asked for ideas, so here's an idea.
What about a Fallout-like, isometric RPG (like the original Fallout games, by Interplay) that revolves around nuclear fallout causing varying (furry) mutations from minor ones (like cat ears, tails, etc) to full-bodied furry mutants?
Because it'd be an RPG, it'd be quite a lot of work to put together, but you'd be able to alot with it in regards to story, and the world itself.
It's ambitious - but I think it'd pay off.
Again, it be a lot of work, but like all things complicated; it's just a collection of many simple things.
Designing a detailed isometric world, interiors included, would be the most amount of work. Then, for the most part, it's just sprites (and their tilesets), story development, coding, and animating.
I want the furry element to be the core theme that the plot is then built around. I want the world to feel beautiful rather then desolate, baron and depressing.
I only referenced Fallout as an example, but it doesn't need to be post apocalyptic, or turn-based. I suggested the isometric RPG idea mainly because of how easily an isometric game could adopt different kinds of gameplay (and even merge different kinds of gameplay) exceptionally well.
Anyhow. Thanks for replying. It's fun to chat with new people.
I've also got a few more ideas in the works if you're interested, but I want to flush them out further before suggesting them, because (as of now) they're just a few cobbled-together, random thoughts that I've not had time to mull over yet.

I would like to put some small amount of effort into a plot though. Some never elaborate the coexistence of humanoids.
"My gift to industry is the genetically engineered worker, or Genejack. Specially designed for labor, the Genejack's muscles and nerves are ideal for his task, and the cerebral cortex has been atrophied so that he can desire nothing except to perform his duties. Tyranny, you say? How can you tyrannize someone who cannot feel pain? "
*Screams like a fangirl for you*
Sounds amazing! I really like how the idea is going ^w^
And the idea of an original cast sounds really good too uwu
Hopefully they find a couple of supporting characters interesting, and grow to like more from there. That is going to be difficult if they cannot project upon the lead protagonist.
I agree that exposition isn't necessary, but I do feel a cohesive plot/goal for the protagonist is.
1. What is the theme and tone of the game? What's the driving thrust?
With a game like Spec Ops: The Line, the message is very clear: War. Is. Bad. With Planescape: Torment, the crux of the game is distilled into a single question: What can change the nature of a man?
It isn't clear what this game is supposed to be about. Science gone awry? Xenophobia? War? Trans-humanism? There's a lot of stuff going on there all trying to peek out and say, "Me first!"
2. I would recommend against setting this game in a technologically advanced setting.
If technology has evolved to the point where manipulating genes is child's play, how is there war? Does this world not have nuclear weapons, or anything like it? Wouldn't nations just reduce each other to ash?
If there are no nuclear ( or chemical ) weapons, why not genetic? In a world where genetic engineering has advanced that far, biological weapons would be very viable, and incredibly deadly.
What is the world like? Is it all just sprawling cities? How advanced are other technologies? How does all of this affect the world and the life of the average citizen?
A more standard RPG setting like from Suikoden would probably be better, and here's a list of reasons why:
1. You'll be able to have a higher variety of locations than in a high technology world. You can have a coastal area for the otter / aquatic folk, desert for the cold-blooded types, tundra for the bears and wolves, horses on the plains, etc.
Each city or village or whatever could be different to reflect different cultures, and having the individual groups somewhat divided would provide a good reason for the player to travel around, and explain why the world is Balkanized.
2. Technology isn't advanced enough for one nation to lay waste to the other with the push of a button.
3. A world filled with wonderful technology is much harder to breakdown than one where people are just scraping by. Wars were common in more agrarian times because the world was so harsh and unstable.
1.You are one of the last of a lineage of regular humans (taken from your summary, as there are people who enjoy playing as humans)
2.You're an anthro striving to uncover the truth, as to why furries, humans and other creatures, alienate themselves from one another.
3.Growing up as one of the more hated creatures in society, you decide it's in your best interest, to stop any more bloodshed and end the conflict once and for all.
4. Random (Let the game decide, based on your personality or something)
This would more or less give the player the ability to choose a different species, aside from only having human.
Im just curious about it since I saw Bareback Streets and seemed like a nice concept
I include that information anytime I mention this project as users tend to jump to conclusions.
