Something absolutely awesome has happened, but I need to explain a bit of RL family history to explain what happened...

My mom was born to a lady who had an affair while her husband was fighting in World War 2. The day he returned from the Pacific was when she was delivering mom. This discovery led to their divorce, and my mom was sent to be adopted.

Ever since mom found out she was adopted, she has been trying to find her birth family. She tried to fight to unseal the records of her adoption, but the courts refused...

For her Christmas/Birthday present (her birthday was early January), I bought her an AncestryDNA test kit. She got the results back almost two weeks ago, and found a cousin! She sent the cousin an email to introduce herself, with a message to reply if she was welcome.

The cousin wrote back!!! For the past two weeks, she has been called by several cousins mom didn't know she had!

This afternoon, she talked to probably the one person she thought she would never talk to - her OLDER SISTER!!! I'm anxiously waiting to find out about the phone call, but from what I heard before, it should be great.... I'll add an update when I talk with mom later.

UPDATE: mom and her sister talked for two hours. Her sister now understands what happened with her family when mom was born. She has accepted mom into her family!

If I hear Easter, Thanksgiving, or Christmas is in Phoenix, or if they decide to go to El Paso, I'm going too!
