Branching out

Apparently FA stopped being "the one place where you can reach everyone" quite some time ago. So I've been considering taking up a second online residence somewhere. But I've got absolutely no idea where to go. Deviantart looks like the place everyone can't wait to get away from, Weasyl seams awfully quit, furry network isn't ready for prime time yet, tumblr and instagram look like the cool kids on the block but seem awfully inconvenient for an outsider.
I'm kind of conflicted here so Advise me!. Where do you think I should set up shop? Why? Who are the absolute must watch artists you can't find on FA?

Additionally I'm looking for people that can convince me that my negative view on these sites is all wrong.
Oh, and apparently this is a thing that looks promising -

Inkbunny is also pretty popular, it's been online for a few years, its interface is remarkably convenient and intuitive. However, it is "the cub porn BBS," so think carefully.

Inkbunny, yeah...
My research on weasyl tells me the site is slowly bleeding dry. As someone on weasyl, what's your impression of activity?
And what's your impression of tumblr's community. Is it as cliquish as it seems?
The Tumblr community seems pretty good from what I've seen, but I just don't like the site design. I prefer a gallery-based site rather than a blog-based one.
I'm going to keep posting to DA and Weasyl in the hopes I'll get more attention as I get more material, but for now, FA seems to be where it's at.
