I spotted this rather amusing story on the "Eater" website -

See what you think, with the story below!
"The plaintiffs claim the cheese isn't pure mozzarella like McDonald's says.
The world's largest burger chain has now been slammed with the world's cheesiest class action lawsuit. McDonald's is already in the midst of some social media backlash over whether its new menu addition, mozzarella sticks, actually contains any cheese after a few customers were apparently served hollow sticks. Now, a man in California is looking to get $5 million in damages from the company for himself and 40 other consumers involved in the suit, all because of the chain's claim that the sticks are "100 percent real cheese" and "real mozzarella," according to Law360.
Chris Howe, lead plaintiff, claimed in the lawsuit: "The sticks are filled with a substance that is composed (in part) of starch, in violation of the federal standards of identity for ‘mozzarella' cheese, and contrary to reasonable consumers' expectations regarding the meaning of the term ‘mozzarella.'"
Per Howe's claim, something like 3.76 percent of the cheese portion of McDonald's mozzarella sticks is actually starch filler. Federal guidelines reportedly prohibit the use of starch in products that are labeled "mozzarella cheese." The lawsuit says McDonald's cut costs by using a filler and therefore had used unfair and fraudulent advertising in claiming the menu item actually contained mozzarella cheese.
McDonald's refutes these claims, saying the company has not engaged in deceptive practices, as "our mozzarella cheese sticks are made with 100 percent low moisture part skim mozzarella cheese," a spokesman told Law360. The chain is poised to defend itself against this action. Cheese lovers everywhere are... probably not holding their breath."

I've only purchased them once and I wasn't impressed personally, and they were terribly overpriced. Maybe they're better in other areas.

Maybe I'm just spoiled because I can go to several gas stations in my area and get four large sticks for a dollar.
Tastes cheesey to me
Now, a man in California is looking to get $5 million in damages from the companyI wonder what damage could have happened to that guy that's worth more than a box of McDonald's Mozzarella Sticks, or maybe a couple of boxes... I can't see any damage done to these persons.
This whole thing is hilarious. I can imagine if you try to go to a German court with such a suit, they'll just laugh at you and then tell you to not waste their time.
That reminds me of that UK girl that tries to get a lifetime support of Kit Kat after she had one without wavers. Her trauma can't be so huge when she wants more Kit Kat and takes the risk of being traumatized again.
I'm not a huge connoisseur of fried cheese but I have seem hollow sticks before. Its usually a side effect of improper storage. The sticks melt, then refreeze and it sucks more moisture out of the cheese and expands. When the sticks are cooked the water steams out of the sticks, but since the outer coating is set this leaves a void inside. The cheese then sticks to the outer surface, or collects on one side, leaving the rest hollow. Bad on McDonalds, but surprising people would make a public fuss about that.
The second issue, of the "Purity" of the Mozzarella, is frankly bonkers. Any sane person would understand that McDonalds is not selling them a pure unadulterated block of cheese. They are getting a fried foodstuff with mozzarella as an INGREDIENT. If McDonald's ran a grocer and sold you a block of wrapped mozzarella with 4% starch filler it would be a case of mislabeled goods with legal merit. As this is a prepared food with coating and spices it would obviously take some amount of culinary doctoring to make ready-to-fry sticks that hold their shape and can handle refrigeration and transport. Nothing in the referenced advertising or anything I've seen involving them seems to claim that there is NOTHING but mozzarella in the sticks. Their website entry clearly states they are composed of Mozzarella with flour coating and assorted spices.
List this under the fat free sugar and the gluten free milk.
It should be said that we all already knew for fact that the big old McD's has never had health for anyone nor anything in mind. Nor that this would come as a suprise since this is not the first of the many lies they sold us on. It is a sad fact that lying has become such a routine thing so deeply grooved into everything they do. That this would be more shocking to find that those filing for the suit were guilty of fruad themselves rather than the company.
I suppose that rather than having integrety in mind, they would rather have you money.
I've bought mealworms, for fishing. They're much more expensive than beef. o-o
I guess lawyers need to make a living too, or something.
I wonder how real that cheese was now.
Also...$5 mil in damages? WHAT damages??? O.o I amone baffled chakat here!
Oh, 'murica. *sigh*
