Doom (2016): Release Date; New Vids; Box Art

General
It's official: Doomsday 2016 is scheduled for May 13th.
And for those Doom-loving nerds with a bit of expendable income, there's even going to be a collector's edition that comes with a steelbook case and a 12-inch statue of the new revenant (for twice the price of the standard edition of the game):

New videos:
Doom - Campaign Trailer
(alternate link if that one doesn't work)
A few quick new snippets of the singleplayer gameplay. Highlights include what appears to be the new pinkydemon (which is actually recognizable as one now, as opposed to its design in Doom 3) and baron, as well as some sorta bizarre double-chaingun.
Clueless Gamer Super Bowl Edition: Doom
TV funnyman Conan O'Brien gets to sit down for a bit with the new Doom and try some of the singleplayer mode. Sadly, more of the segment is focused on the football players accompanying him than Doom itself, but there's still some new treats to enjoy, like a better look at the baron (and the terrible things you can do to it with a chainsaw).
And finally, here's some articles talking about the new Doom's terrible, generic box art! (I told you it sucked.)

(The other articles are more informative, but the Destructoid one is more fun if only because the writer makes note of the demon giving "fuck-me eyes" in the corner of the original Doom's box art. They're not wrong either.) XD

FA+

And good God, that box art is the WORST. UGH. >_<
Of course, that being said my love for the original games are still purely loved by me. I just hope Zandronum continues to hold and develop Doom for many years to come.
I'll agree that I don't really get the Doom "feel" from the promotional material they've released so far, but that might change when I actually play it. It's hard to say. I'll have to see for myself.
If nothing else, I'm looking forward to writing a review of it for the DFC. XD
There majorly 2 things this days. A. We and people like use have a centrain image in head (heavily shaped on Classic Doom 1 and 2) and we get to dissapointed when the game not meet those. And B. Thanks to Consoles and CoD the whole costumer base in the marked shifted quiet alot away from what we have in mind.
I mean it almost impossible to play a fast paced 3d shooter when you use a gamepad. the Aiming responce speed it simply to slow. So since the companys want to sell on all platforms they tone down the game speed so a gamepad user can aim as nicely as a PC guru. And with that the whole gameplay experince alternates as well as monster placement / use. And befor you notice it the whole game is alot more liek CoD then classic Doom2 / Duke 3d. And I think that is the core isue we are facing.
*Gets blasted with steam*
Yeah, yeah, Gabe, hold your horses till I can get my wallet out.
"You can't fucking please Doom fans"
Thr game looks like a fun, violent shooter with a little dark humour thrown in. People bitching about scripted events....hello? Crushing ceilings anyone? SCRIPTED EVENT.
It might not live up to our doughy-eyed nostalgia, but nothing ever does, does it? It's gonna be a riotous good laugh of a game, just enjoy it for what it is.
But yeah, I was pretty surprised by the negative responses here. You'd think Doom fans would be a little more excited for a new Doom game. ^_^;
That being said yes it's very boring and static. Game itself looks fun though.
And as "Halo" as it might seem, I do kinda like the power armor thing in this game. It lets Doomguy retain his old-school "superpowers" while giving more plausible reasoning for it to appease modern gamers who need explanations and logic for everything. XD
And yeah, you're in space fighting fucking demons with your bare hands in a place that probably has no air. power armor is logical.
Doom however is a First person shooter where the goal is to kill things on the way to the goal and you aren't on a time limit so unless you are a speedrunner of the game, it's a game you take your time with. So you have mods with interesting abilities, new maps packs, weapons so you can kill enemies in 101 different ways and such.
My point is that having custom tools is more beneficial to a game like Doom then to a game like Super Mario maker. Just look at Left 4 Dead 2, one of the biggest coop shooter games that has ever existed and a good chunk is due to the mods created by players where you have character and weapon skins along with map packs and the like.
Or even Fallout, custom tools to create new weapons, armour and gameplay mechanics, even custom missions. I mean the building mechanic in Fallout 4 was inspired by a building mod created for New Vegas. These companies embrace it cause it keeps players coming back again and again to play the game in new and weird ways.
Doom has the same potential if the devs decide to let people have the full mod set instead of a set amount of tools like snapmap is leading up to be. The game will find a lot more life if people are allowed to tear the game apart to make new things then if they were just given a set amount of tools.
But I don't know, I want to have more experiences like Guncaster and Brutal Doom in this game and if they don't let modders have all the tools then I don't think I will enjoy it as much.
So I guess we maybe never get a true classic doom successor. Bleh
And of course, raw speed isn't everything. The Serious Sam games managed to be decent Doom wannabes despite the player's plodding movement speed.
To me it totally didn't fit together and gave me a so bad taste of what to come, that I havent really followed the following trailers yet. I maybe have to check out one or see a review considering Doom4 is soon there.
Also Serious Sam manages to bee Doom-Familar because it follows the gameplay Formular of the 90ths rather then the Formular of the modern console market predominated area.
May I also say I'm kinda dissapointed on the collector editor. A figure of a reveant? I where more intressted in a Doomguy or if it has to be monster? Why not the most iconic of em all.. The Cyber Demon... Well one thing is clear if I buy the game it wont be that collectors editon.
