my thoughts on the ending to the movie "9"

(spoilers?)
I really want to love this movie as a whole, but I can't, I love most of it... but...
My thoughts where that the machine would need to absorb all of them to create a whole soul and then it would go on to recreate life in the world in a good way, that the remaining characters would realize this and we'd see a heroic sacrifice for the greater good of the future of the world.
... was rather disappointed this was not at all where the movie went, I was disappointed with the ending we got :/
PS the ending to "9" feels like the ending to "I am Legend" all over again, I hate the ending they chose for the theatrical release of "I am Legend", I saw the alternate ending and wiped the theater ending from my mind because the ending they cut is what I freaken wanted!!!

FA+

i liked most about how it was done, and can't say as i really remember how it ended, (which i take as a hint my mind is occluding something i may not have liked)
i really, what attracted me to nine, was how it was done. i sort of guess i wasn't really paying near as much attention to story as just to the visuals.
it makes me think of things being done now by esma and other animation schools, and demo reels as resume's of animation studios.
some of the more creative ones.
