So you wanna make a Kaisura?
You sure about that?
Just for a moment, or rather the several moments it takes to write this out, I'm going to drop the guise I normally wear in the public eye and just speak plainly.
The fact is, you probably don't, you just don't know any better.
There are several reasons why I maintain permission necessary to make a Kaisura, and several besides why I'm frequently not actively accepting/responding to such requests.
One of the bigger ones is that there are rules when it comes to making a Kaisura, and there have to be to maintain consistency in the species. Too often, people have claimed to understand and respect this, had their Kaisura drawn "correctly" the first time, and simply go on throw the rules out the window in future revisions until the character is a bastardized imitation of a Kaisura.
Furball knows most of these rules, and whenever she doesn't, she just checks with me. But on the off-chance it will mitigate the number of people asking who simply wouldn't abide the very simple rules involved, I'm going to outline the mainstream guidelines in bullet-points.
* Kaisura cannot have just any kind of style of ear they like. Kaisura actually have three specific ear styles to choose between.
* There is no such thing as a Kaisura without horns.
* Most Kaisura are not supposed to have multiple sets of ears. This is a common misconception. The only person I've EVER approved to have multiple sets of ears was Furball herself.
* Kaisura can generally have any combination of fur colouration and patterning, but I strongly discourage and DISLIKE it when people want to put existing common fur patterning features on them, like tiger stripes or leopard spots.
* Devon herself is the only Kaisura with the specific cock design she has. It is one of her unique design features. It is NOT meant to be copied or imitated.
* Shapeshifting is not an ability any Kaisura possesses. And I don't care how special you think your shapeshifting character is, they cannot become a Kaisura just because you say so.
* Devon is able to transform between multiple species of Kaisura because she is a specific type of Kaisura that possesses that ability. She is the only one. Furball (as a character) is partially this type of Kaisura and can transform into a COUPLE of other Kaisura species, but that's it. It's not open for debate.
* I have never voluntarily authorized anyone to make a Megrodite, except Furball.
* Kaisura have specific gender configurations. They're not interchangeable or "customizable".
* Even if you have a Kaisura character, with permission, you DON'T have permission to just go ahead and create other Kaisura characters, or let other people create one, on the basis "my Kaisura character totally had a kid with this character so now they have a kid who's a Kaisura".
While it is not a RULE or strict requirement, in the same way most people ensure to mention who the characters in a picture belong to, I consider it basic courtesy and respect to remember to note that the Kaisura species belongs to Lathander (me).
Now you may be wondering "wow this Lathander sounds like a massive bitch! Why are they such a tyranical overlord when it comes to that species they made up? Trancymick lets anyone do anything they want with the Sergals!".
Yeah. And look at the results of that. They're common as mud, probably less than 20% of them are actually accurate or consistent with Trancy's design for the species, and they're frequently involved in the nastiest shit in the fandom. I respect Trancy. Hell I knew him ages back, he did a picture of an older version of Devon for me as a gift a long time ago. And back when people were still being utterly retarded and saying the Kaisura were "totally a rip off of the sergals", when any picture drawn correctly putting them side by side showed very clearly they were almost nothing alike, Trancy himself was one of the people who came out and said "uh, no, they're not the same" (not that anyone listened to him).
Here's the bottom line. The Kaisura are my species. I created the species for myself. Then I put a shitton of work into their design to the point it was possible for other people to have one as well. But the only way that works is if they're consistent. So there have to be rules and guidelines to it.
If you can't accept and live up to those rules and guidelines, go make a Sergal, and don't waste my time.
For those of you that do get it, and have given enough of a shit to read this far, there's a new artist on-board I'll be working with to bring out pictures and references of the various other species of Kaisura, and all manner of things Kaisura related in the not too distant future. There may be more, but I'm going to sit on that for now.

Also, hope you can sit on something warm in the mean time! I look forward to any future Kaisura doodles.
That being said, they're still very lovely and I can see the care you put into them.
That being said, I can't wait to see new kasuran art~
>^.^<
Also, there was a time where I contemplated asking for a Kaisura character. Now, I am glad that I didn't. Better to respect the character species from afar, than to disrespect it with a poor representative.
Thank you, Lathander, for this in-depth information about the species.
I do hope I haven't butchered your Kaisuras with the few gifts I gave to Furball in the past years. I'm sorry if I did!
If you have more information to read for the Kaisura outlining their culture and society I'd love to take a look at that as well.
nothing where you can sneak your way through the rules and pretend "that´s official". you need some kind of "Lathander approves" stamp or something, so people know it is a lore official kaisura design :3c
Building from the ground up. Even the more simple ones as well. Just like this one artist; a perfect example. Tiffany Kokotis, the creater of the manokit, formed the species in a way they could be safe for the younger generation of furs. Manokits are not supposed to have any genitalia/sexual organs that include functional breasts. However another artist quite basically said "fuck you, I do what I want because artistic freedom says I can" and decided to sexualize them anyway. That type of person, let's just say I have a few choice words for. Though I'm happy to see how much your species is cherished and I enjoy reading the lore. Can't wait to see the upcoming refs. ^__^
I can make a Kaisura fursona with these rules, no problems.
I'm so excited to know more about the lore of your species
Keep up the good work nwn
Not at all, I find nothing wrong with wanting to have your species the way you want, and none of these rules are really that bad. I would be happy to have one, if only I had the money and didn't have a pile of neglected characters.
Good job on laying all of this out.
I admit that I have wanted a kaisura and I would follow all the rules when having one, just to be respectful.
But I won't push it.
Have a good day. ^^
What I'm saying is if you have stuff that looks kind of like a Kaisura but not really, and is not a Kaisura, and you don't claim it's a Kaisura, I'm not about to get on your case. Like, if you're obviously not just trying to pull a fast one by copying the design but not saying it's a Kaisura, you're not doing anything wrong, as far as I'm concerned.
So I disconnected the kaisura part from it entirely and called them something of an experimental look.
I never claimed or said that you are a superbitch, I just spoke up with my full heart the truth that I was worried about offending you.
After all, I will openly admit it, you are really sounding like a good person, just like Furball is.
Could I have the honor of being blessed with permission for one kaisura?
If not, I will not ask again.
But either way, I thank you for being understanding. ^^
I forgot that the kaisura itself is only for those worthy.
I am sorry to being a heedless person on that. ^^;
For real?
I wish you could answer me
now she's freaking out about loosing hers
IMO, if you make a custom adoptable species, it just seems courteous to try and be available 24/7 whenever possible (well more realistically, at least once a week), to answer any and all requests, at the very least with a 'hell no'. Otherwise one should bring on more friends to accept requests and help handle things. That's certainly what I would do, and will do, if my custom species Draderroo ever happens to take off. I myself aim to be 100% available for requests, and just got someone onboard to handle things if needed, even though I've only given out four at this point (well, 3 working on 4th, actually).
Personally I'd say Zorgoias are a good example of how to keep a species mostly consistent but also let people have fun. But that's just my opinion, and of course, I'm not saying that you can't run your species the way you want! (Heck, that'd kinda make me the superbitch wouldn't it? xP)
The thing is, people never stopped asking, even after I put up a statement that I wasn't answering the requests, demonstrating that they can't even respect something that simple.
The irony is I have actually approved numerous permission requests since I put the statement up, despite this. So to a certain degree, it barely even matters.
Also, Kaisura aren't adoptables. Each Kaisura is custom made for the person asking based on their ideas and my oversight/feedback/input.
Also, if I did get one, would I be required to get them drawn by Furball or the other artist? Or could I draw them myself? (assuming that I could actually satisfy all those rules and not mess it up >.>)
I'd say they're one of the only two publicly recognizable original species I've ever liked, alongside Avali, and I greatly admire and respect all the effort you put into world building yours like RyujiinZero did the lil space raptors. And, honestly I think half the reason I can't stand Sergals might be the reasons you laid out, so maybe it's a great thing you've been so restrictive about creative permission. Either way it's respectable.
I really like the Kaisura design, but I'd like to make my own species that are somewhat inspired by them, but very much distinct.
They'll have a broadly similar appearance. But key differences to suit my own aesthetics and interests. Different anatomy, genetics, and so on.
Completely different lore, background, setting, etc as well, to make them stand apart.
TBH? I'm not a bigshot artist, writer, roleplayer, etc; so I doubt it'll come to much in the way of popularity or impact. But they'll probably appear (eventually) in some of my personal art and writing. But mainly, as you're the creator of the original species, it feels like a respectful thing to mention it to you and ask for your permission to do so.
I haven't even put pen to paper yet, but I have read yours and Furball's journals previously on what the Kaisura are like, as I had already had the idea of them vaguely floating around my head and planting the seed of an idea, and inspiring me to do more research into them.
