Video: I go to Pick N' Pull
Hey guys,
I thought to record this while I went to the modern automotive salvage yard Pick N' Pull. I needed to go and get my Lilly a new valve cover, since a brain dead mechanic over tightened a bolt and cracked her's causing her to leak oil.
I remember awhile back at least on Deviantart, outside of movies like Brave Little Toaster, it seemed like a lot of my friends have never actually been to a real junkyard to see what they're like. They're not a happy place, but you know.. self-torture makes you smart.
It's a good maybe half-hour video. My only problem with it is that my stupid motherfucking camera-glasses I was wearing pretty much cut all the heart out of the video. It records videos in 1minute chunks and has no indicators to let you know when it is or isn't recording. It's supposed to record until you push the toggle button again, I don't know if it was because the battery was getting low or something. But towards the end, the most critical parts, it started recording only 30 seconds and then stopping with no warning. It literally cut out all the most emotional parts. Me finding Lilly's donor sister, me paying that car my respects, and after I got the part me trying to comfort it and telling her she was a good car.. and of course getting home and showing Lilly her new part... fuck it all. Anyway while you don't see it just know it happened. >> I might do another one of these at another location since I still need some more parts.

>.> okay... now that I'm done with my side tangent and publicly delving into my psyche.
lol I kinda hope at some point you go back to the "More Ernie's looking one there" junkyard and give us a look at those older ones! If I can help it I don't plan for Cassandra and Bert to be alone for very long. I also find it a little poetic in a sad way how the modern Junkyards sort of strongly resemble a car lot. Like they end their lives where they started and it all comes closed in this circle. Also I can't help but recall the Junkyard in Fallout 3 where you first find Dogmeat when I see this place! It looks really similar to me!
lol side note I like the adornments to Lilly's Rear View Mirror! And who'd have thought Ashley would make a guest appearance! I can only imagine your frustration towards the mongoloid mechanic that messed up her valve in the first place! Not to sound combative but if someone bloodied up Cass I'd be more than tempted to return the favor to them! Mechanics are expensive!!
It's such a terrible shame though, a lot of those cars look brand new! And still they have that spray paint on them marking them like slabs of meat, no doubt noting all the choice cuts that remain on them. It is really sad seeing fields of dead or dying cars like this. I've also never liked the concept of Donor Cars either! If you're going to get them both FIX them both. It's always been in my mind that as long as the car still rolls and there's good parts in there somewhere you can bring them back. Of course I'm also aware of the fact that when it comes to stubbornness and conviction to perceivably lost causes I'm something of a rare breed. And it's such a shame! That one van looks really cool too! Imagine seeing that all fixed up cruising down the road! Or that gorgeously colored little beetle! Like most of them to me look like all they need is a tune up and just a little bit of body work! I'm sure that there's more wrong with them that I can't see, or at least I hope there is because otherwise I think I'd flip my top! Obviously the one that freaking caught on fire would be hard if not a lost cause but that minivan? Nothing to it I bet! The ONLY thing I saw that belonged in the junkheap was that Obama Biden sticker! XD
But thank you very much for the video man. It was a fun little adventure to be able to sort of be there with you on. Though I have to ask, where's Mitzi?
Thanks for telling me how you feel about junkyards. I'm a little ashamed to admit I feel the same way. I mean I lack your can-do attitude, I know how futile even thinking of fixing them is. But I do have that fascination, there's just that sort of morbid fascination of wondering what cars you'll come across. I think what the person said below you counts too.. it's a place of such history so many years and lives! As for myself I think I've told you about my experiences with junkyards as a kid, going to that super ghetto forested junkyard in the Indian reservation just off Cagey Rd. Where the moss covered haunting stares of cars would peer out of the darkness from bushes and trees they've been rolled back into... such a creepy place.. but that was kind of the thrill. I can see now why you love ColdWinterWarriors so much, they do pretty much what you want to do, just have a field full of cars you saved from the crusher.
Am I the only one who finds old 50s/60s era school buses rather... creepy looking? I don't even know what it is, looking aged and old is one thing, they also just have such weird off-putting proportions. Like a lot of them look like some weird hybrid, the front is often the exact same body you'd see on a truck just slapped onto this much larger cold metal boxy body.. it just looks weird!
Like look, here's Ol' Green's head slapped onto a bus body! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/.....3-jpg.1862450/
That "more Ernie's looking one" is C&H Autoparts, if you look at this overview. It kind of wraps around the perimeter of the Pick & Pull I went to. I actually went to the perimeter of the inside of Pick N Pull where the two places meet and it has a literal Jurassic Park style electric fence! That triangular part at the top of the screen is the part you saw in the video, there's a closed gate I might be able to at least walk up to and get a look at with the camera. There's a couple 50s cars but mostly 70s and 80s era cars.

The place is very reminiscent of Ernie's, from the house-looking office, the bent up fences even the crappy white sign. Unfortunately I'm almost sure if I went there it's not the type of place they'd let you walk back there.. but I'll go ask sometime.

Aww thanks dude! Yeah I love her dangles, to me those are like her ear-rings or necklace ya know? One of those thing on there is a gift I brought her from Seattle. She was so blinky-happy when I gave that to her, no joke! I know? I can't count the times I've ended up having a mechanic end up fucking something up or being abusive towards her. That's why I have like literally no local mechanics I trust anymore and why I work on her myself now! I didn't even know that cracked valve cover was leaking until like a couple months ago.. and that 'repair' was done probably a year or two ago. ><
Yeah I agree right? I didn't even think at the time to keep count of how many of those cars actually looked like they'd even been in an accident. Those new ones were probably fucking cash for clunkers victims, sold out by their family for a quick buck. I don't know if this makes it better or worse, but Lilly's sister, the donor. She'd been in an obvious accident, was struck on the diver's side the whole side was punched in... Yeah speaking of ColdWinterWarriors, I see them getting 'donor cars' a lot too.. shame. Yeah right?? That bus was amazing, what character! Literally saw him as having that distinct theme to him like one of the worthless cars. It's such a shame that paintwork is going to be destroyed right along with him. Probably a dead engine bro, bet that's the problem with more then half of them... well at least when they were first brought in and weren't picked clean like a carcass.. honestly I don't know why you wouldn't keep your car and just put a new engine in. I mean unless you're gonna risk a $200 buck car from craigslist as your 'new' car.. it's even cheaper to just put a new engine in it! For instance a used engine for Lilly online is like $779 If you have the time and tools you could even install it yourself and save the service fee. Oh harr harr.. /: ) "Uhhhhh... uh.. I resent that remark uhh.. I think um.. you need to apologize." Don't really care, Obama let us down so I'm not a big fan either.. though while we're being open on political opinion you know I'm voting for Bernie Sanders. /: ) Feel the bernnn!
Aw Mitzi-Loo? She's up near Leavenworth Kansas at our friend Harald's house.. he has a garage. It's her refuge from the winter snow we never got. Almost every Sunday we've been going up there doing bodywork on her getting her all prettied up for Summer and the carshows. We got a power buffer half-off from Harbor Freight (lol) and were using it on a section of her body last Sunday. Lemme tell you, that one part of her body? Looks amazing. Just you wait till you see her this summer bro. https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.ne.....mp;oe=574BF9E0

There's also a second Pick N Pull just up the road from the other one, with a bigass warehouse:

Well buddy, think of it this way, You can't spell Futility without spelling Utility! If your thrifty and stubborn anything can be overcome! That's what obstacles are for! To be overcome! Like your problems with Mitzi that you rose above! Because Utility in any form starts with you! But that's interesting to know! And I'll have to read the person's comments! XD As I recall you wanted to own your own junkyard when you were younger and you had it set up more like a care center/retirement home! You still have one of those old drawings on DA somewhere I think! XD AND IT'S COLDWARMOTORS!!! But yes they do! I do envy them and their ability to breath life into all the cars they have.
XD I've never thought of that before! They are kinda odd and I don't think I've ever seen one that old or in that style before! lol though I kinda like the weird Bulgy look to them XD Odd cars, Odd Boats, and Odd planes interest me!
JESUS!!!!!!!!!!! What did they think that the cars would try to escape their fate of sitting there and becoming large Chia Pets? That looks like land of the lost cars man! That would be one HECK of an exploration!
XD I'm pretty sure some of those ARE necklaces!!! lol and I guess no matter what girls like to be pampered a bit and given thoughtful offerings in the form of jewelry! And well I guess you get the joys of being a handyman. Ah the phrase "I'll do it myself" still rings in my ears with a high level of pride! lol there's nothing quite like doing a job yourself either out of pride, out of being too cheap to afford a professional, or just plain being good at it!! One of the joys of manhood! XD
GOD I HATE THAT PROGRAM!!! That is a vicious and blood thirsty act of mechanical slaughter and if I ever find the person who thought that abomination up I'll beat unholy hell right out of them!! And I guess at least she had a reason for being there. Still :/ I'd want to help her out if I could! I don't mind doing body work! I'll stand there and hammer it back to right even it if takes hours. I was my happiest when I was washing Cassandra down. It was work, but it was rewarding work. Good honest fulfilling work. And yes the COLDWARMOTORS guys do use Donor cars and it bugs me, but no one's perfect and I guess if you can save one car there's a point where it's probably justifiable. lol and I'd love to hear that Van's song! What a tale that would be!! I KNOW RIGHT!?!!! People are so quick to throw things away!!! lol I see what you did there! XD I'm just going to sit here and covertly build a wall to hide my political support lest I be judged harshly XD They'll be none of that BERN stuff in MY America thank you very much lol!
Ah I wondered where she was! The side of your house seemed almost naked without her!! But I'm glad you have a nice place to keep her safe from the winter weat-HARBOR FREIGHT!?!!! BLEEEEEEEEEEECK!!!! What in GOD'S holy name were you doing there!?!! >.> Well so long as you're not planning on using the tool much it should be okay. And I'm glad! I can't wait to see the 50s sweetheart! And HOPEFULLY I'll have Cass and be getting her in shape. lol and let me tell you she's going to be like sitting in a dream with a redone plush interior! XD and MAN is her steering wheel low! She's designed to be driven by one of those old timey guys who grabs the top of the wheel to look cool! Sucks thought because I learned that I can't get an Antique Plate AND a custom series of numbers. So I'll either have to get her the custom plate that says MIRACLE or get her an Antique plate and just be okay with whatever random combination is on it.
(well this is a great start.. made a paragraph responding to your first sentence. XD Why must you get me started?! P.S lookie what I found on google images. <3 http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uCNoMdziZ....._toaster_1.jpg)
Well you speak the same kind of inspirational talk that movies seem to tout as the type of thinking we should all aspire to. But in my experience movies aren't really all that realistic and in a lot of cases those common messages they hold up aren't often true. Such as the common 'be a good person and you'll get the girl and live you dreams while the bad guy is defeated and suffers.' Often times the phrase "nice guys finish last" holds true while cruel people who stand for the same shit that movies paint as "evil" end up millionaires and get away with all kinds of shit. (Just look a Trump :P ) Sorry.. guess I went on a rant there.
Damn I can never remember their channel name! You ever have those words you somehow can't help but see a certain way until you REALLY look at them?
You and me buddy are the only ones thinking about the CARS trying to escape. XD The fences are to keep PEOPLE out, people who would get in there and steal parts.
Lol now that you mention it I think one of those is indeed a necklace lol. I agree, you can really take a lot of pride in fixing things yourself! I didn't tell you, but Wednesday, Lilly's starter went out.. dead completely just like that. Luckily Lilly had been letting me know leading up to it, you know.. turn the key and it'd turnover like the battery was dead, turn the key again she'd start. That morning though it took 3 tries to start her and something in my gut just knew.. if I shut her off after that.. she might not start again. So when I drove her 10 miles up the highway to my stop for work, I kept her idling while I worked, then when I came back and did another stop I kept her running again. It wasn't till we got home and I shut her off, then tried to start her again for a test that.. I turned the key and just....silence. I was blown away, how close I could have been to being stranded... kinda scared me a little thinking about it. Anyway later that day I got her a new starter for $168 and managed to install it myself thanks to a guy's youtube video showing you how. (lucked out there) and yeah.. you feel a lot of pride from that.
Lol oh man, uuh.. well prepare to hate Obama even more because he gave the go-ahead for CFC.. don't think it was his outright idea but he have the order. But other countries in Europe had similar programs too.. not sure if they followed us or we followed them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_A....._Rebate_System I'm sure she'd appreciate that man, I couldn't tell but her whole body could have been bent C shaped from the impact.. if that was the case it'd be nearly impossible for her to drive unfortunately. Frame damage is really the killer when it comes to a car being in a crash. It's kind of like you getting a spinal injury, if it's bad enough your body is limp garbage after that. Hey dude, I know how great it can feel repairing the old girl's body with some good ol' fashion muscle. If you get a chance to work on her again might I suggest you try this for her rust? Get yourself a bottle of CLR from the store, http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail.....&gclsrc=aw
As Jerry Ree's says, we're in a throw away culture. At least the donor cars that ColdWARMotors get are usually pretty dead looking.. like pretty ruined and/or partly disassembled. I'll never understand that about you bro. I'm your friend, I'm not going to knock you for your political preferences and I'd expect you'd feel the same towards me. But I also know you, at least I think I know you really well. You seem like such a friendly empathetic sympathetic and altruistic guy always wanting to help people and things in need and all around putting others first.. basically a boy-scout of a guy. <3 So with that in mind I have no idea why someone like you would be right-wing, I don't even know what kind of views someone like you could even find to agree with! Is it the propaganda? That popular bullshit myth that all left-wingers are just lazy entitled assholes? I mean, the right wing has always had self-interests in mind. It's the left wing that want's to help people, make sure poor families can make enough money to survive on, that sick people don't have to die in the streets because they can't afford to pay the doctor, that people our age can get a basic college education without having to be thousands of dollars in debt just to have the privilege, ect ect. I just don't understand how a nice guy like you could possibly be against things like that. <: / Not judging you, just honestly honestly wondering what kind of mindset somehow makes being against things like that feel right.
Ehem..
Believe me she's in a better place right now, we're getting her looking so nice I honestly think it's going to be painful to put her back outside even on the nice days! Lol what are you doing looking at the side of my house anyway you stalker? : P Lol yep and your right, their stuff IS a piece of shit, I think everyone kind of knows it.. you can tell it just by holding the stuff that it's cheap-ass crap. But the price is just too tempting. Hell even using that buffer for a few hours I could already notice it being crappy, you'd have the trigger held down and the speed would keep fluctuating as if there's a voltage problem lol. Cass' steering wheel is low? Have you checked to see if the seat adjusts? They might be power seats look for a lever or button down by the base of the seats. I wouldn't patronize you by telling you that but.. you are the guy who didn't know how to open the hood after all. : P
Yeah in order to get an antique plate she has to be registered as an antique car and that requires that she be kept indoors.. at least that's the rules in Missouri, not sure about Florida.
And this is one of the many reasons I love out conversations! You have a real skill for over analyzing stuff and tracking down the real world mechanics and inspirations! I recall that outright you've done a full cross section of her if I recall correctly that ended up on some other website somewhere! I also remember your cross sections of The Massive from Invader Zim and your designs for how a Corvega engine worked! (a personal favorite of mine!!) XD I always feel smarter after one of our conversations and I always adore your cross sections!! I'm going to have to do a few some time for Infinity Quest! I've actually put enough thought into how a lot of the technology works! lol how do you ever find these pictures btw? You've got real world stuff and just about every scene imaginable set and ready to go as a screen shot!!
Thank you. I never tend to think of what I say as inspirational but I appreciate that all the same. I am both humbled and flattered buddy ^w^
I suppose you ARE right in that sense but I suppose that it wouldn't be as heralding a feat if everyone so easily found their happily ever after. In order for their to be the victory there must be defeat. I'd love to live up to your claims of my talk being motivational but when it comes to stuff like that its supposed to be hard and its supposed to seem bleak. In the end I personally am just more stubborn than the foulness and cruelty that agreeably is far too wide spread in this world. But that just makes it all the sweeter. When you can't see that stuff shining through to give you that happily ever after, when you don't believe in that magic where the good guy wins in the end, when all hope is gone and there's no one else standing there and you feel like you need to "Grow up" because "that's just not how the world works" it's fun to be the last man standing there so that in the face of impossibility you alone are the one left to stand and spit in their eye and maybe, just maybe being the guy who gets the girl and topples the balance. It's something I live for ^w^ Because you honestly never know when the time will come that you get to be the hero. Until then, when things fall through I just look at it like it's not my story yet. It wasn't my moment to be a hero, to be the winner, to ride off into the sunset; but I'll never find it unless I keep on standing up. The whole "Nice guy finishes last" is more or less just a comforting thought to bide your time with until your number is called. And those evil people Like Tru- HEY >:U XD lol and hey no biggy buddy! I'm sure I've gotten up on a soapbox more than once in our conversations! We all have beliefs ^w^
Yep! ALL the time. lol and I will admit that it feels weird whenever I type ColdWarMotors because my brain handles it weirdly until it's all typed out. Again, no biggy XD
:/ then its sad to say we're probably the only ones with imagination! And why on Earth is it so difficult to stretch people's sympathies to stretch beyond humans and animals? When Greek Philosophers wove tales of man gaining life because Prometheus stole fire from the gods, why then must it be so hard for us to look into our own inventions; those which are powered by fire through internal combustion or steam, and see some of ourselves in it? All our Earthly endeavors I think bear some small part of us in them. How many times have you seen a car so old it should need carbon dating to detail the year, or some old machination that until ever fuse is blown and the last glow of spark is gone, continues to sputter on and try to keep pressing on with a near human will to keep on existing and to not go quietly into that cold empty night? Of course that's probably just me being overly romantic about the whole thing but still. Food for thought I suppose!
>.> And I view people who harvest parts like that, through theft, as some of the lowest of the low!!
lol I knew it! XD But she's your girl so I wouldn't expect you NOT to pamper her with a nice necklace or something! And yes there is! Which is why I cannot wait for my moment to finally get Cassandra and make her drive again!! I'm still new when it comes to really driving but it is fun and if I could do it with Cassandra I know it would be all the more enjoyable! And you're exceptionally lucky my dear friend! Our Van's battery died not too long ago and it was a 200 dollar fix for an obnoxiously specific type of battery that we had to get the next day early in the morning after the poor thing had to sit in a parking lot unlocked all night because it would not give up its keys until it had a new battery installed! And it's bad enough that the poor little thing has to deal with my folks constantly comparing it to Clara (the van with the factory defects) and how they wish they still had her instead or Bert! Ah the joys of day to day drama and auto repair am I right? XD
>:U I KNEW THAT LOATHSOME CURR WAS BEHIND THAT PROGRAM!! If that elf of a human being wasn't out commander and chief and was man enough to face his critics within the roped off square of a boxing ring (and he wasn't surrounded by secret service) I would quite delight in the challenge of knocking some sense into him for as long as it would take!!!! And I'm not just saying that because I'm aligned with the Republicans either! >.> though it does seem to come with the territory! "Okay! Here's your Reagan T Shirt, Whiskey, Bible, Shotgun, Aaaaaaaaand any minute now the sight of Obama SHOULD give you a brain Hemor-ah there it goes. Yep, you're all set! See you on voting day!" And buddy I will more than happily try out some CLR when I next get the chance to start working on Cassandra again! Ideally though she'll be under my ownership by that time because I'd like for this deal to finally be done.
And you know that's so true? Everything is just thrown away anymore. There's no pride in it. And true. There are some cars out there that just look like they've moved on. I remember when I lived in Brooksville there was the remains of a Tow Truck that were all but picked clean. lol and AGAIN your habit of flattery is above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you buddy ^w^ I think you're pretty swell too and I'm glad I've left a mark as an outstanding fellow to you! As for that whole thing I try never to talk politics... but if you wanted I could offer some explanation if you really were interested to hear my point of view on stuff like that ^^' *readies soapbox*
>.< Dwhwhhww *trembles* what a horribly ominous way to open a sentence XD though I'm glad she IS in a better place! lol I can't wait to see her new pictures after being prettied up buddy! I'm sure you've treated her splendidly!! >.> I have the right to an attorney before I have to answer any questions lol!!! And I know, it's terribly sad and deeply saddening to be someone who sells that stuff. It's basically born to die and that's a very depressing notion to someone like me. lol and they probably are adjustable, that seemed to be the style back then. lol and HEY in fairness I was never taught how and... still... might not know entirely how to do that >.> <.<
...
ahem
lol in Florida it's just a matter of the car being older than 20 years. Sorry btw for how long it took me to reply to this! I've been wanting to but being sick really took it out of me ^^'
I wish my local junkyard got Miatas, I love raiding Miatas now that I know of what parts are worth money to remove and resell as used. Heck, several wrecked Miatas have donated their parts toward mine!
Gah and I'm fricken jealous of you for having a Miata!
These post-crash cars are such a sad view ><
Are you just saying that because I'll respect you for saying it? Or do you really feel that way? /: )
I'm saying it because I -do- feel that way. Especially being an actual victim of a car accident and not just a bystander ;A;
Awww honey I didn't know that <: ( I'm lucky you survived it. To think I could have never known you! Was it very bad baby?
We got hit directly from behind. The whole trunk was squished to the point it couldn't close and lock properly, while the car behind us ended up with scratches despite the model being known of its fragility... mysteries of physics. My parents had to go to the hospital, the neck pains weren't that serious fortunately (still enough damage done to demand refunds), and I emerged okay myself, no scratch, no pain, nothing. Therefore I had to stay on the spot and keep a watch on our fluff for a couple of minutes and wait for my uncle and aunt to come and help and move her (the poor fluff) to their driveway until she's repaired.
Oh geez, poor Fluffball! Dang that's a pounding in the rear she'll never forget. Is this the same Fluffball you own now? The cute little girl you showed me? Were they able to fix her booty all up afterwords? I'm really glad you weren't hurt sweetie. <: }
I tried to imagine the experience from your point of view... wasn't it kind of like, wandering through a graveyard where all the corpses have been dug up? O.O I'm not an objectum sexu... whatcha call it? But I love your art and I find your journal entries and lifestyle interesting.
You seem like such a chill but unusual guy... your voice in the video is almost calming too, like nobody would even expect that you're a bit out of the ordinary. I hope that's not insulting. I'm definitely out of the ordinary myself, but not in the same way.
Anyway, kudos! :)
You've basically got it though it's worse then that. A graveyard where most of the people aren't dead yet but crippled and being slowly picked apart by vultures(humans). Lol Objectum-Sexual, thanks, I appreciate the interest. How did you find me anyway??
I am chill, and unfortunately yeah no one seems to really think anything of me. I kinda wish they did actually lol.
Who's Doomy?
Also, have you ever heard of the movie Freddie as F.R.O.7?
