I wonder if anything will be changed about the multiplayer. While I've been having fun with it myself, the Steam store page shows "Mostly Negative" for the user reviews with many complaining that it's more like Halo than Doom. Would have been much preferred if iD gave the game to croteam or something but croteam is probably busy with serious Sam 4

Yeah, I'm not sure where the "It's like Halo/CoD" complaints are coming from (unfortunate DLC stuff aside). It mostly feels like Quake 3 to me. Yeah, there's loadouts, and it's a little slower, and air maneuverability is more reliable since you don't have to rocket jump everywhere anymore, but otherwise it feels a lot like a classic arena shooter. There's still item pickups in the maps, and it's beneficial to memorize their locations and deny enemy access to them whenever possible, just like old times. And it's not like there's regenerating health or vehicles or limited sprinting or anything.

I doubt the MP will drastically change, as the game's full release is less than a month away. There's just no time for big overhauls.
