Need help w/ Shading/Highlighting!

I forgot to tell you guys that I recently began arting again. I think/would like to believe, that I've somewhat improved; since my last attempt. I know I said I wanted to try working on some non furry stuff, but I found myself working on the subject matter when it came down to me working on a headshot for the boyfriend (galex), a reference sheet for our roommate Umi's fursona, and some redesigning of my fursona. :p Well... I got the flats colored for the headshot I was working on, but the thing is, I have exactly no damn clue as to what I'm doing when it comes to shading and highlighting the piece. I've tried visiting all sorts of tutorials oriented towards Paint Tool Sai. For hair, fur, and everything else in between. But, like...buh!! Every time I got to apply what I've learned/picked up from the tutorials, I fail miserably or somehow screw things up. I mean, it's a headshot, which shouldn't be a big deal. But, like, here I am scratching my head and getting progressed whilst I run on fumes (I'm really burning myself out over this piece and probably stressing myself out for no reason either, but...yeah.) Anywho, here's where you guys come in. Would any of you mind giving my some guidance when it comes to shading and highlighting? Or sharing with me some tutorials that cover the subject matter and are quite applicable to artists who aren't exactly pros. If so, that'd be hella great.
