I think I'm in love (Test rode a motorcycle)
So I was in buying a cable lubricator at my local motorcycle shop. Of course, it is law, you must look around while you are at the motorcycle shop so I complied with the mandate, I looked at the bikes.
A liquid cooled V-twin caught my eye- no it was not a V rod.
Sure enough, my stars, it was a Victory! American motorcycle company. I'm not the biggest fan of H-D, no innovation from them.
Hey I told the guy, I want to test ride that thing.
So he said sure, pick out a helmet so I did, and I test rode it HE GAVE ME PERMISSION TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY so I took him up on that. Had he not of said it I wouldn't have done it. Oh, this is the motorcycle I test rode: http://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/ima.....-burnout_1.jpg Gosh I'm sorry I forgot the picture.
It's been ~4 years since my V star 1100 got stolen. I had an 02 Classic in red and cream. Like this one, but mad max: http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/t.....0e3f5.jpg.html
That b*tch had torque... Reliable bike I took all through the desert, on dirt roads, even thru sand. I've jumped it too, too many times to count. The back shock was completely gone... I got good at it, landing on both wheels, for a big, fat bike it landed good.
I test rode a Victory cruiser one time and it was nice. Nice...
My V Star made torque and that's what I like, even more than HP.
So I took this little rascal Octane out for a ride, and I obeyed all laws, except for speed because it's a test ride, I gotta see what she will do.
I went down the steep hill on the 89A, the one my truck hates, then back up it, I was able to hit 117MPH going back up, I only slowed down because there was this dude kinda swerving ahead of me so I had to slow down, I didn't know what dude was going to do, but passing him was a glorious breeze, that bike is sh*t ton fast.
Honestly was worried about the single disc front brake (Bigger bikes have dual front disc brakes, this one only has one disc brake up front, the front brake is 3/4 of your stopping power, the back break is only kind of a "helper" esp. in dirt)
But my fears were ill founded. That front brake has a shit ton of stopping power is was more than adequate, in fact it was excellent. My V Star had dual front disc brakes and the Octane spanks my V Star in stopping power. Not knocking my 'Star she was a great bike and I still love her.
It took two hours to stop breathing heavy, I felt CLEANSED afterwards, I forgot how much I need a motorcycle to LIVE. Not to exist but to LIVE.
When I get one, and I'ma get one soon, I'ma fit it with street knobbies and dual sport that nasty girl. I'm gonna ride her in the dirt and she's gonna beg me for more.

I also want a motorcycle bad, but never rode one on the road. I would buy cheap motorcycles. Get them running, run out of money and sell them in the winter. Or if they were too crappy to sell, pile them in the barn and sell for parts later when I got desperate enough to lose money on them. I'm torn between a 1000cc sportbike, a cheaper Corvette or a nicer fun AWD car to replace my 300k mile Subaru.
I want to dual sport it because I dual sport my v star 1100 which is the most unlikely off road bike ever, it's fat and heavy but I did it. This bike is smaller lighter and faster. I put 40k miles on my vstar and some of that was off road, even thru sand and washes. People would state at me and cheer when I would go off road.
The problem with the kawi is that it's too slow on road for my taste, too much of a pig. Most people never consider dual sporting a street bike but I did and I love it.
A 1000 cc sportbike is a bit much for someone who's never ridden on the road... Just being honest... I learned on a 650 twin when I was 14 and even that was too much bike... Something about enough power to get you into trouble but not enough experience to get you out... Things happen lightening fast on a bike... If you don't have the experience you may end up hurt...
It's really impressive you were able to off-road a cruiser!
Unless... You go Goldwing ;)
Most cruisers and sport touring bikes with upright seating are OK but the 600 sport bikes my torso is too long for when you crouch down my throat is on the windshield you are supposed to be behind. I can see going over a bump and getting throat punched by the windshield or handlebars.
Good luck with getting a bike again, probably way more fun than a 6.2 truck. I have a 6.5 turbo truck with a few mods and get my doors blown off by old rusty minivans, lol
