I took Bupropion HCL (Wellbutrin) for around 5 years. It worked pretty well and had minimal side effects (somewhat decreased appetite, twitchyness if taken with too much caffeine). The only way in which it changed my personality was by making me no longer depressed,

For me it made it nearly impossible to be depressed. I eventually stopped taking it (after ~5 years) because I felt I might not need it anymore. I tapered off without any difficulty or withdrawal symptoms. After not taking it for awhile I do get mildly depressed on occasion but not bad enough that I feel the need for an antidepressant anymore.

In conclusion, I would certainly recommend it and had taken two other antidepressants before it that did not work (Lexapro and Prozac). However, I've heard that antidepressants can work very differently in different people so I can't say how it might affect you.

Mine were covered by insurance, but I think the regular price is about $30 a bottle with no insurance.

Saint John's Wart is a natural antidepressant, that's what I took for a while. The only downside is that it's very slow acting, so for me it took about a month or so before I felt any sort of change. It was worth it though

It's not a prescription, you can get it from almost any pharmacy or apothecary. It's a herbal medicine
