I'm sorry to hear that. The older I get, (27) I find that I don't think people should make and stick to those decisions. I'm open to the possibility of children, but the stars would have to align. I am happy without children though and for my perceivable life, I won't have children due to my own career goals and lack of financial stability.

If you both feel that this is who you are... well it's a big deal breaker.

But if you feel like me, you can't make such decisions without coming to a point in your life that having children is even a responsible option.

Hah, this is so true. I'm at the point where I REALLY want a kid when I could afford it.

That's kinda where we are at too. The thought of us even considering children is laughable at this time however when we are ARE able to and we're not sexually active I'm afraid he's going to say "Oh well I want kids now" and I'm no spring chicken here. I don't want to waste more of my short life waiting for him to decide. Thanks for the input friend.

I'm sorry to hear. Selfish has sort of a negative connotation to it that I don't think applies just because you don't want children. Your reasons are completely valid and you shouldn't feel negatively towards yourself for them. If your relationship has held up for twelve years, I hope that something like this wouldn't tear it apart.

I think he thinks I'm selfish it just sort of burns my ass because I told him 12 years ago I don't want kids. I hope it doesn't tear us apart either. It would be such a waste. Thanks for the kind words.

In this economy, I don't think it's safe to have any kids, seeing as most of your savings will go to feeding them and basically you have to give up alot of important stuff

I mean, I may be young myself(25) but yeah, I know I will never want kids, at least not human ones. furbabies are fine, but actual children would change your relationship and basicly make things less comfortable around the house

My sister found herself in a similar situation a long time ago. She had been dating a guy for years and he knew she had had her tubes tied cause she didn't want kids and had no plans of ever having any. He was cool with that and after several years of dating, he asked her to marry him. Two weeks before the wedding he decided he did want to have kids someday after all, so he broke off the engagement and ended the relationship. To this day I still think he had found someone else or was just having second thoughts about spending the rest of his life with her, so he came up with the one excuse that he knew would end the relationship.

Wow. That's something really hard to ever set in stone. And putting a deadline on it, even two years?!?! Jeez. My mate and I have mutually agreed it's not even gonna be a discussable option for like 10 years probably, and even then is a remote possibility. I think I'd be a good dad, but as you know I also like hanging around naked as fuck and drinking altogether too much every night so... I understand where you're coming from. Not even in an economical sense, i know myself to well to REALLY want kids. I love the idea of having a child. There are a lot of pro's for me. But way to many cons. My personality doesn't mess well woth kids and i know what effect my personality and ways can have on a kid if he/she was around 24/7. I would love my child to death and want the best for it...and it isn't me who's the best. The whole scenario would make me a better man, but not a different man.

Kids are a pain. They need school supplies, they want toys and games and expensive crap, and knowing me and my stress and anxiety issues, kids would be the last thing I want to do lol. Ain't nothing wrong with not wanting kids, it's not for everyone. If people have problems with that then well, that's them.

I can totally understand you. As a kid I wanted children. When I explored my sexuality and lived on my own, I somehow grew to dislike the idea as much as I possibly can. A life without children has much to offer
So, I totally understand what you are thinking and that you want to live your life as you want to (and I like the idea that you want to be a drunken slob whenever you want XD)
and if he thinks he can change his or your mind after 12 years, especially since that was a clear topic of "no children ever" - he is pretty selfish :/
