Regardless of what gender you are, I think that this is a good thing. North Carolina's law regarding transgender people using bathrooms was deemed discriminatory, US government is saying STOP NOW.
Ironically its not the bathroom part that is the nasty part though thats the part that gets all the publicity.. Its the bans on legal recourse if you feel discriminated against
Just so I get the full picture here, what exactly was that law in question about? From what I gathered, it was prohibiting transgender people from using public bathrooms of their true gender, am I correct?
Assuming that's what it is all about, I am glad to see that steps are taken against these laws. I mean, biological sex in most cases might be a pretty clear cut thing, but I'd hope we as a society would have learned by now that social gender and biological sex are not the same thing and are not always linked together, and also that social gender is not as easy to define and (mostly) binary as sex.
The subject of transgender is certainly a complicated one and one that needs a lot of open-minded talk and discussion, and stigmatization and outcasting are never the right ways to go about a discussion. So yeah, glad to see that this step has been taken.
essentially, the bathroom bit was that it required them to use the restroom of their birth gender. I don't really know much else, but there is more to it.
In essence it is a very tricky situation. While I want everyone to feel that they can be themselves in any situation. I also believe that everyone has the right to feel safe as well. What should we do if a Mom with two kids feels completely uncomfortable with a transgendered man in the women's bathroom. It is hard to see the right and wrong of that one too. While I want the one person to feel like they can be themselves, I want the other to feel safe in an environment like that.
As for me I want everyone to feel safe and happy in general, just the kinda person I am. A compromise of some kind need to be meet somewhere. Oh what that could be I have no idea.
I can definitely see your point there, and I absolutely agree that this is not an easy situation. Both sides kind of have valid points. The problem seems to be that we only have two kinds of public bathrooms while the variety of different genders we have at hand is much more nuanced and varied.
I don't know, I still don't think it's the business of the state to release laws against that. You could also start arguing that peple are uncomfortable with sharing the restroom with same sex/gender people as well. What I guess I am saying is is that there's currently two different view-points on transgender people. That of those who believe their "chosen" gender (sorry, I know it's more complex than that, I just lack a better word) is their one true gender, and those who believe their brth gender is always ones true gender. As long as there is that split in society, that's always going to cause discomfort for some people in situations like these, and I don't really see an easy way around that. I would rather support the side though that pushes towards the idea that everyone can be what they want to be, even though I still see the concerns of the other side. If there was a solution that made everyone happy, I'd of course take that any day.
There has been more bathroom assaults and behaviour in the Republican politicians than the LBGT community.
You want safety then don't let those Politicians near anyone
