i put my phone on airplane mode so it wouldn't be connected to the wifi and possibly drain any bandwidth with updates or messaging TT__TT
it's Fairpoint, a new england company that has a monopoly over internet access where i live. it's them or nothing at all unfortunately. and their customer service sucks and they don't care about their customers enough to update their infrastructure. : (

naturally occurring local monopolies are not illegal unfortunately. They are protected by the logic that if you attacked every locally occurring monopoly, society infrastructure would fall apart.
