I find fursona I like that the owner commissions work for and then follow and commission those artists. I've had some great luck doing it that way :)

I have a top five artists on my profile whose art I can thoroughly recommend :)
Also if you're worried about money find people who are looking to practice so charge cheap or PWYW, something I'm hoping to start soon ^^

You could commission an artist you like and tell them they have full reign on it? :) I know when I get commissions (doesn't happen as often anymore) I always really enjoyed being able to choose whatever pose I wanted and just have fun drawing their characters. Though doing artistic freedom, I also tend to do more work than they usually pay for because I always have so much fun xD
