Hey there peeps, I was wondering if any of you had tips for moving to a new city. Currently I'm living in a small village with my family but I am trying to move to Vancouver by myself. I've no connections there (just 1 family member that I know about but don't really interact with) and I'd be living by myself.
My plan is to get a remote camp job or some decently paying fulltime job in the city so that I can live somewhat comfortably. I want to get back into Smaash Bros. and make a circle of friends or join one. I also want to get into dating since there's many times more people in the city compared to where I currently am. Ideally I'd be living close by Downtown or Burnaby in a one bedroom apartment or something similar. I don't want any roommates or shared living spaces like basement suites, etc.
Got any tips or suggestions for me? The only obvious thing to me right now is to get into cooking meals for myself. I know that eating out can get quite expensive!

When you're preparing to actually move your stuff, carefully calculate cost estimates for all of it. Price of a moving service versus cost of hauling it in your own vehicle, cost of food during the trips, cost of unforseen expenses. When you have a rough guesstimate total for how much it will cost, double it and save up for that point. A large spare cash buffer is going to save your butt when stuff inevitably goes wrong. I just moved from Nebraska to Wisconsin and I've definitely had some surprise expenses pop up that my buffer has cushioned me from.

As for when you get there, don't be afraid to go around and explore the area. Learn the city, don't be afraid of getting lost. There will always be a local or two who can help you get around. And use tourist spots as an advantage. Places normally used to help tourists find new places aren't only for tourists. You're someone in a new area you don't know, and they are there to help people in your situation. They'll help you find local hotspots easily.
