Liger Watch. Mass Effect
Ok I'm fresh off of watching the N7 day trailer and after that I went ahead and looked at their Andromeda Initiative stuff, well what's available without making an account for them. And I'll say this. The stuff on their site looks neat. But the trailer we got for N7 day today was VERY underwhelming.
Virtually no new information at all and it's taking some restraint not to swear like a sailor here. We got glimpses of a new alien race and a decent look at a Salarian so we know their in Andromeda but the thing is that according to the site 3 other Arks were built by other species. Unless those Arks are multi-species than that means we're loosing the vast majority of familiar Mass Effect races. That doesn't sit well with me.
On top of that there are a number of other things that just grind my gears. First of all lets look at WHEN the Arks are leaving. Launch is scheduled in universe to be a year before the events of ME3. Ok I need to swear. How the FUCK is that possible?! These are enormous fucking ships looking to be a good fraction of the size of the Citadel! How the fuck did we build these damned things? I get it the "lets go explore" thing is probably a cover for the public so some of the species can be saved if shit his the fans with the reapers. But what we're seeing with these trailers seems to be a pretty big public initiative that there would be fucking records for everywhere. Meaning it'd be VERY easy for the Reapers to follow and then kill them all. But by that same damn token there is ZERO mention of any of this in the previous games so there ya go.
In short things don't look so great for the start of this game. Bioware is trying to just run on with Mass Effect without addressing the clusterfuck that was the endings of ME3. They need to be fucking addressed and probably retconned if we're ever gonna move forward. The only hope of that we have is that once in Andromeda and awake someone on board the ship successfully contacts the milkyway using a QEC and we get filled in on what happened. But I'm not holding my breath for that.
So what do you guys think? Anyone else as underwhelmed by what we've gotten as me?

All this said I still would have preferred this having been something that started AFTER the Reaper War with some sort of retcon to the endings or even a tacit, "We stopped the Reapers." without ever expanding on that or mentioning it much again. But that's not what we're getting. But once in Andromeda there is some potential for an interesting story it's just I kind of hate the set up to get us there.
I myself like the Mass Effect 3 endings they ended the story fine : Destroy you fought off the indoctrination : Control you are now indoctrinated they win : Sythesis is Saren's ending so I dunno : Shoot the Catalyst I don't know
And as for the endings. What your saying there is less what was presented and what the fans want to make of it. Nothing out there confirms Indoctrination Theory to be true. Sure it's possible and given that we'll likely never see the Milkyway again your free to imagine whatever you like for a post War Scenario.
Mine alters things from the Beam onward. Shep and Company make it to the Beam and head up to the Citadel where they fight a pitched battle to reach the Central control room and run into TIM who after a battle pulls a Sarren and blows his brains out. After that Shep and company hook up the Crucible which immediately primes and fires and sends out a shock way through the Relay network crippling all of them and making it easy for the remaining galactic forces to beat the shit out of them. No Star Child/Catalyst Kid period.
I found the entire concept of WHY the Reapers do what they do to be incredibly stupid and would have preferred their reason kept much more vague. Keep them more like a Lovecraftian horror. They come and harvest. We are nothing more than a crop to be reaped to them and their reasons for it are forever their own.
Also speaking of the Reapers what's up with the Leviathans anyway?
As for he Reapers the idea is that they were the race that built the first Reaper. They tasked it with solving the Organic Vs. Synthetic problem. It then harvested them and began the cycles which are pretty much experimentation to see how things play out with a variety of variables. The Leviathans we meet in game are a relic population of the ones that stated this all off. Again their another example of taking away the mystique of the Reapers.. We didn't need to know who or what originally built them and having their builders be giant crab versions of the Reapers was just plain lazy.
Or maybe a science team was already planning a large-scale colonization of Andromeda and the Alliance (or whomever) threw their resources in to expedite the process. Either way, it seems weird that Shepard wouldn't have known about it, although since it's a contingency plan in case he couldn't beat the Reapers, maybe it was run by someone who thought Shepard was objectionable?
Anyway, back to my lurking corner......
But we now know that the Andromeda Initiative was in it's earliest stages before ME1 and that they depart just before Shepard wakes up in ME2. But still you'd think Shepard would have known about this and lets face it since we now know the Council knew about the Reaper threat being real since Sovereign attacked it would stand to reason that after that they threw more resources into the project as a safety measure to ensure species survival. Not that anyone either on the Ark or off knew about that angle that is.
Yes there are some ways to say how feasible building these things are but still I kind of hate this as it feels so contrived. An excuse to restart elsewhere without having to take into account any player actions from the previous games, and without having to address the clusterF***k that was the ending of ME3.
All that said though I am still getting kind of excited for this one as yes tit does lend to some neat stories it's just sad that we'll likely never revisit the milkyway or the fallout of ME3.
