Derp gryphon thoughts.

General
Still trying to come up with a name for my derp gryphon character.
So far, everything I have come up with and then searched in FA shows an existing gryphon with that name.
Frustrating.
So I can't use Peanut....Or Sebastian...Or anything else I have come up with so far.
I may have to get creative.....
Kind of want to use something a bit silly and maybe food related.
We'll see.
I've already decided the character will be a goofball.
Addicted to shiny things and always trying to beg for snacks from anyone with food.....
I'm sure I'll come up with more as the character becomes a fursuit.
I'm taking a bit of a page from Telephone the Dutch angel dragon on this.
I love the cute, derpy things she does randomly, and that kind of street theater appeals to me.
But he needs a name.....
I think I've also figured out a way to use the realistic eyes, yet get a toony-er/more friendly expression.
I think if I use the half ball eyes, but make a slightly larger, more oval shaped pupil and offset it inwards a bit to look a little crosseyed.
It should come across as more quizzical and less potentially threatening.
Combine it with large, arched eyebrows, and he should look like a proper derp.
I have not yet dragged out the chocolate brown fur I cut for a red panda suit years ago.
I think theres enough to make the upper part of the suit as I envision it- Theres a couple of yards of a golden fur with dark guard hairs I bought a long time ago that will make for the legs easily.
The red panda was cancelled when I discovered I had cut some of the fur wrong, and I was worried that the chopped edges would be impossible to cover up or fix.
Now, its looking like I just might find a use for that fur after all.
There will hopefully be enough to make the head and at least the chest for the gryphon.
So he'll be dark brown and a dark gold for colors.
Still debating how large and what shape of wings....I might go for the tiny little token ones some suiters use for convenience.
I've also more or less decided that I'll use Kory Bing's Maned gryphons as inspiration, and not use bird feet for the hands and forearms.
I like the look of the four lion legs for gryphons.
For fursuiting, the bird leg idea had been kind of bothering me, so that detail goes away.
Definitely going to do some variation of jacklegs.
Probably the simplest configuration I can find, to ease making them.
I haven't felt this inspired for a long time...I am having so much fun working this out!
And to think, its only going to happen because I bought some costuming supplies that turned out to not be what I needed....
I usually seem to do dignified warrior type characters for costumes.
The idea of doing a deliberately silly and fun character is really appealing to me.

FA+

Already rejected stuff like Pizza, burrito and twinkie.

Hmmm.....
Kazoo has potential, but doesn't seem completely right.

I thought of bananas, nuts and pie.
None of those quite work.....But I have only been working on the problem for a day or two so far.

Some idea that have come to me in the last few minutes include Quark, Quirk and Nozzle.
Well..Maybe not Nozzle.....
I toyed briefly with Captain Jack, Bizmark, and Floofy...But those don't seem quite right either.

Another potential inspiration-
Banjo.
No idea why.
But it has potential.
Maybe I should go shopping at the petsmart for squeaker toys and see what I can find?
I actually thought about using a bicycle honker horn...But that might be too loud or obnoxious.

Banjo is good, but kind of comes with a musical expectation. I think it'd be hard to pick in a suit, maybe just frail instead. x]
Hmm, if not Telephone, Bananas, or Pizza... maybe Widget or Fidget?
Fidget is more what I might think of as a ferret name.
However, reading your comments, I had a possible idea.
Pecan, the derp gryphon.
Its not perfect, but it could grow on me.
It does manage to imply being slightly nutty without being too obvious.
Have to think on it for a while- But I am open to more ideas while I chew on this one.
I also found a squeaky rubber T bone steak for a buck at petsmart.
So I have something for inspiration as I work.

Might be a bit close to Godzookie from the 70s Godzilla cartoon...
But you have to admit it sounds goofy enough.
More to think about.

. . . nah
K. Lutz for short. :)
Did you ever get to meet Sir Osis of Deliver?
