Goodbye 2016. Hello 2017.
So 2016 is almost over and a new year is upon us.
I've seen a few journals of folks who were very upset about 2016 and all that happened. I admit, there were many things worthy of lamenting. I know the recent loss of Carrie Fisher stunned and saddened me - Star Wars was my first movie and I cannot count the number of times I watched the trilogy with my brothers. But for me, I look back and see a year that started in uncertainty and fear and is ending with many good memories to cherish.
2016 is the year I became a Cancer Survivor (and radioactive rat).
2016 is the year my family took our first real vacation for just ourselves.
2016 is the year my wife's mother and sister were able to move close by so my daughter now has her Grammy in her life.
2016 is the year we got Zootopia and Rogue One.
2016 is the year I turned 40.
2016 is the year I rediscovered the joy of riding my bike and began teaching my daughter to do the same.
2016 is a year of many good memories with family and friends. It was filled with ups and downs. It had many partings and goodbyes, but much to commend it with. Each parting reminded us why they hurt so much and what these people meant to us. Each disappointment reminded us of what matters to us. Each success reminded us that our hard work, our hopes, and our prayers are seen, heard, and answered.
I for one am grateful for 2016 and look forward to what 2017 brings.
Thank you, 2016. And welcome 2017!

a year that proved totally harmless to me personally.
what is coming, how much usual and how much not,
i don't think any of us can be certain as yet.
i suspect its one i'm sure gonna wish i was smarter then i am.

It was an eventful and momentous year, to be sure. You're right to point out the good that came in it.
*hugs* I'm so happy you're still here and healthy, even if you're a little more glow-in-the-dark. Eh, it adds to the mystique, right? ^.^
*hugs ya right back* Thank you! And yeah, it is neat, plus it makes a fantastic story.
