MCFC 2017, Updates, fursuits, Job-updates, rant, BBQ stuff
- Been a busy last 4 ~ 5 weeks, trying to catch up, (after the nearly a month down & very sick with acute bronchitis on top of Mononucleosis) that set me behind quite a bit. As i mentioned in a past journal i plan to take a bit of a break form commissioned suits and try a couple pre-mades, and still have those plans, but i still have a few people on the que-list who i promised suits for which i will still do. (including a tiger, a dragon, a wolf, etc.)
- On the agenda in a week is MotorCityFurCon 2017! Who is going & will see there?
MCFC has been my favorite mid-sized con for more the last half decade, (which included the previous FCN) because of so many factors, an awesome hotel, awesome location, lots of amenities, awesome staff, awesome friends, and just awesome everything about MCFC. (ever since FCN 2009) This year will be a number of new SSC suits there, including the debut of WolfMasters new suit, Sozan Ryker's new V3 suit, my Nick Wilde cosplay suit, and first MCFC for G-Wolf's new suit. We may do the SSC group photo after the parade outside near the patio gazebo (as in past years if weather is good) or may arrange a different time & location if others wish to. We also still need to arrange photographers, (i will have my camera with us and if we can arrange someone to use that & take photos will work too. Also at MCFC this year i am DJ'ing the opener set on Saturday night, (after FoxAmoore & Peppers' show in the main ballroom. For anyone who likes 80's retro music remixed, you need to be there at 11:30 on Saturday! - at the end of the set, i may have Nick Wilde do his version of a Try Everything remix to end off the set!
Was also thinking of having a bit of a room-meet (with pizza) on Thursday night, and doing a dinner outing on Friday evening to either Chili's or at OnTheBorder restaurants. We plan on arriving on Thursday in the afternoon and will be there until Monday morning.
- As mentioned before recently, i heard through the grapevine the place i work may be sold to a US company later in the spring, (and likely closing) meaning i would loose the contract-type industrial mechanic job with very flexible hours, benefits, etc. As i talked about in the past i been wanting to go to fursuit building full time, but always never made that final leap to do so. ( been more worried i guess with loosing my benefit package from work, and being able to increase fursuit work to make up the difference. If i have to change jobs, it would likely have to be full-time, meaning the fursuit stuff would become more of a hobby thing, but i prefer to be building suits & costumes than the other stuff. decisions decisions decisions... i may need suggestions here on this.
- Also i am hoping this weather gets better, so i can plan weekend BBQ meets again. Will likely plan a big Spring-opener BBQ couple weeks after MCFC near the end of April if weather is good open to invites! :)
- April will mark 17 years since I discovered the Furry Fandom. I seen a lot of changes in those years, and since then how much it has grown. It has been a big part of my life for all of those years, and will never regret it. :) especially with the hundreds (if not thousands) of friends I have gained since those early years. Most still are even from the start, (but like everyone we loose a few) but the number gained far out weights the ones lost. Among the very first people I met in the Fandom, including Wookiee, Shadowspawn, Babytiger, Prplhaze, potoroo, lionus, and many, many others who I still chat with and know right from the start, & so many more I have gotten to know & happy I Met.
- As mentioned also before, my new Nick Wilde cosplay suit is my second suit to replace to soon to be sold Zeke Hyena. I will be giving Zeke a full cleaning, re-airbrushing, all repairs & refurbishing, (some new paw pads, the jaw upgraded and adjusted to work better, and adding a muzzle fan. He will be auctioned off sometime in May, which will include the full Zeke suit, and his leather & chain harness. He will also come with a head drier. I know there has been a lot of interest in the past for Zeke, and here is your chance to get him and give him a new home. Zeke needs someone to wear hm at cons & breath some new life into his character, so for those interested in Zeke save up now for the auction to come later in May. ( likely late may.
- For any SSC suiters going to MCFC in a week, we plan on doing the group photo again this year at teh Gazebo after the parade, (between 1:30 ~ 2:00 PM) Were still looking for phtographers and somone to use my camera to do photos if possible, ( as one had to drop out)
- More updates soon.

Have fun at mcfc
I can help bring all sorts of food if you want. Or money to help out.
Hopefully I'll see you at mcfc I'll be around Saturday
Glad it's also somonenelse and not just me that notices this competition in being popufur.....I don't see a the point really. Just be a good person!
Numbers is an issue too. I hear furs brag about how many followers on twitter they have so that means they must be better. Others are making youtube channels and telling people to go fallow them but....they have no content on their channel. XD thats now how it works~!
mostly young furs. But eh they will figure it out and grow out of it. I had that faze too when i was a brand new fur. I thought thats how it worked. Alot like thinking i needed a suit to be in the fandom haha!
My biggest issue is when i go to cons (my friends say i have bad luck and dont get the same reactions i get) But i've slowly stopped going to cons for full weekends. I now just visit for a day.
I got yelled at by a stranger/con go-er. Because i was giving her friend the evil eye....i have no idea who they were and told them i was probably thinking and didnt realize i was staring. Told them sorry. But they kept bugging me the whole con afterwards. After i would talk to other con-go-ers they would instantly walk up to them as they left and i guess make sure i wasnt talking bad about them....i donno. It was more annoying than worrying.
Thats just one example. I have examples where i help furs who are REALLY shy, find a group to hang out with. I tell them that they have a good personality and just need a bit of a push. So i show them a group and help introduce them. Off they go. Next day i say hello how are they.......and they look at me and walk away, with out saying anything. Sometimes i get a "who are you?" I remind them and i get snubbed of. I dont get mad as much as confused and a bit how to say...upset/sad?
The community to me lately, has been a hard one to want to stay in. When most of your interactions are negative.
I was finally able to show one friend my unluckiness and they were shocked XD said some people just attract that type of person. nuuuuu i try so hard to be nice, why!?
It sucks that your flexible hours are moving south. Having work hours that isn't 9-5 is such a great feeling to avoid the rush. As for doing the fursuit building full-time, if you have the resources and capital saved up. You should pursue your interests (as long as you're still passionate about it and not burning out)
If you still like the mechanical industry there could be more part time work as you transition too. Just a few thoughts. Not sure how the job market is in tottenham. Though I commmute to union station each morning for the high tech jobs.
Best of Everything to you.
Here's to many more years of furryness!
To the future!
