There is only one main convention I can manage in a year (so far). This is also the first year I have a full suit to make use of.

I would be there to get additional ideas on how to perform in suit, fursuit maintenance recommendations and keeping others informed on how to interact with us properly (do's and don'ts)

You've made this non random

This project has more to do with letting furries explain themselves than trying to offer an exhaustive, objective look at the entire population. As such, the statistics will be skewed to represent those furries who are actually interested in explaining themselves, via participation in the poll.

I'm keenly aware that this is not perfect science, but the next best alternative (as of right now) is a wikipedia page.

It's not a problem of lack of precision, it's innacuracy. Every single furry survey uses volunteers, ruining the sample, when a proper sampling method is to as easy as having the researcher go to random furries and ask them, instead of having interested volunteers go to them. Hell, just from your social status you could get a ton of randomized participants via notes

That would be effective if there was some way that I could *force* randomly-selected users to participate, but what actually happens is:

A) I spend a week sending out 1000 notes to random members. (For the sake of the discussion, let's pretend I don't get banned for doing this)
B) 900 of those random furries ignore the note / never respond, while the 100 most opinionated / active furries choose to take the poll.
C) As a net result, the survey results are skewed towards furries who are more likely to volunteer their opinion.

As opposed to what's currently happening:

A) I send out 18803 inbox notifications to furries who follow my journals. (Immediately, we're skewed towards a sex-friendly audience, since I'm mostly known for porn)
B) 16000 of those random furries ignore the note / never respond, while the 2000 most opinionated / active furries choose to take the poll.
C) As a net result, the survey results are skewed towards furries who are more likely to volunteer their opinion.

The only differences in these methods are:

1) One has a much smaller sample size
2) One has a sex-positive bias, because they're known to be consumers of adult content.
