How do egg adopts work?

I've seen those uploads where it's a bunch of individually patterned eggs and I think you buy one and get an adopt from the egg? Like a surprise?
I'd be interested in making some for my closed species but I wanna make sure I know how they work first!

Well, they're like surprises. They have a like a hint of what colors/markings they'd have once they hatch. Sometimes people would pay a little more to put a specific type of creature to match the color scheme n'stead of it being random
