Anthrocon 2017 Late Report!
Oh my oh my! This is so late to post but with Independence Day, working my camp job, and a long wedding I finally have time to recall the glories of Anthrocon 2017!
Thursday I arrived in Pittsburgh around 3:30 pm and checked in at the wonderful Omni William Penn to a 15th-floor suite. Shortly after that I picked up my friend,
Metal , and got him setup in the room. Next was the registration line, which took little time despite me forgetting to pre-register thanks to the fact I could do it over my device. After getting my badge and goodies bag, I did my duty as a proponent of big data and filled out my Furry Survey which got me a sweet ribbon and a paw eraser (Woot!). After that, I took a walk from the convention center all the way down Liberty Avenue to enjoy the cool mist of the Point Park Fountain and then a relaxing return jaunt on the banks of the Allegheny River. Later, I checked out the pre-convention social for a little bit then explored the convention center until the first dance started. Now at the beginning, the DJ played some remixed pop songs before the more ‘traditional’ Furry dance sets were put up but I loved the entire thing especially when I and a few others ended up tossing a deflated ball around the open dance floor between drops.
For Friday, I started things off like any true Anthrocon enthusiast would and attended opening ceremonies. After enjoying a short preview of the shenanigans the Chairman would be committing throughout the convention, I headed to my first panel: Conquering Your Character hosted by Kitty Biscuits. I learned much about beginning the process of branching out in the fandom through collaborations and cross promotion and, even though I am not an artist or a creator, I gained immense insights into how to start to create a presence here in the fandom. Next, I had a hilarious time at Q&A with Charlie Adler who had the crowd roaring with laughter with tales of his career and copious use of the Red Guys orgasmic voice. I caught the end of NIIC’s live concert and then proceeded to the dealer's den to spend all my money before enjoying Rhubarb and Cosmic’s show followed by the Dreamcatcher Concert. Most of the rest of the night I hung out with Metal and made a new friend
MinaRabbit before unceremoniously passing out.
Saturday was a slow start for me with panels but I did get a great breakfast that day and scored a great spot with Metal to watch the parade go by, TWICE! After that, I went to Berry Talk with Majira Strawberry where he and several other YouTube furs told of their experiences with joining the fandom, telling people about their fursonas, and countless more. Next up was the Kage and Alkali comedy show with an opening act by Pandez which was hilarious and had me laughing so hard I nearly fell off my chair! After collecting myself from the comedy show, I attended Anthrocon Tonight which started off hilariously thanks to an opening act by Charlie Adler and three lucky fursuiters which then gave way to magic tricks and fantastic singing acts. That night’s dance was a blur of bass and booze for me but was AWESOME all the same right up to when my body managed to get back to my room and my muzzle hit the pillow.
Sunday, although often sad for some con-goers was an incredibly fun day for me as I attended one of my favorite convention past times, the Anthrocon 2017 Dance Competition Finals! The judges this year were stacked with great performers like Remix and T the Wolf including two of my favorite fur-suiters, Mangusu and Autsu Fox! The competition itself had a FANTASTIC lineup of dancers both new and experienced and has made me want to get back to the gym and work on my jamming muscles so I could one day bust a move in a suit! After that came the charity show which was just as funny and memorable as the previous night's shows and had, even more, guests than the other shows. Finally, it came to the ever-sad closing ceremonies and then a sad jaunt back to the hotel to pack up… Which I imagine many other furs did but not I! I enjoyed the last bits of my apple vodka bottle and continued to explore the convention space and the city as well! In those inebriated stumbles I met two new friends
DagTheCat and
TwiggytheDragon and shared good food and conversation before I continued my wobble about the town. The night ended with me pier side at the convention center enjoying the warm night air, the waves of the Allegheny, furry revelers, and the light haze of booze before returning to my hotel one more time.
In the end, Anthrocon was a total blast! I met some and I cannot wait to be back in Pittsburgh next year!
