Lot's of people ask me how I'm doing, since I live in Texas.
We had scattered showers, "less that 0.1 inch."
Ranger is 315 miles from the coast.
To put that in perspective San Jose is 315 miles from Los Angeles.
As I explained to a friend, "This is like being in the top tier at a NASCAR race,
you're far enough away that 1. you're not going to get hit by a flying car, and
2. you can see any tires coming in time to move out of the way."

Only Alaska has more square miles (and a lot fewer people) than Texas, so, yeah. There are a number of countries smaller than just the greater DFW area. Heck, Irving alone is bigger than seven countries (Liechtenstein, San Marino, Tuvalu, Macau, Nauru, Tokelau or Monaco), but Ranger is a lot farther west -- inland -- than I'd care to try and walk on a sunny day. DFW is the extent of my experience in TX, but I want to see more of the whole state.
I live in eastern Connecticut, about 25 miles ESE of Hartford or 15 miles south of UConn. Connecticut is a small state (only Delaware and Rhode Island are smaller) so I have people asking me, "Oh, do you know So-and-So?" Turns out So-and-So lives in
BilgepitBridgeport or Cos Cob or something, effectively NYC suburbs, so no, I actually don't know all 3.5 million Connecticut residents.Make that eight countries, as Vatican City is a country apart from Italy.
The Vatican: "Wait, that's a country!?"

(FACT: I didn't even know you were in Texas.)
