It's horrible even when someone you vaguely know dies. A friend of a friend of mine a did a few months ago, they swore I have met him, and I feel terrible for not remembering at least what he looked like when they told me. But a close friend, you must be torn apart. Do take solace in the fact that his suffering has ended, and now is on his way to which ever post death fate (heaven, reincarnation Etc.) now that his mortal shell has passed on.
