I played a bit of Civ 5 the last few days. I was trying out a modded Civ. (If you want to try it, here it is.) I easily demolish all the other civs twice while going for a cultural victory. The second time I also completely avoid war the entire game. So, I end up thinking "Okay, now let's try a non-modded Civ, do something similar, and see how it works out."
I try out Pocatello, because I felt like it. Turns out that Festive Robin is just really, really good. I feel like an idiot because I'm suddenly just doing average right out of the gate, instead of taking the lead in like 50 turns then just completely eclipsing everyone. I kind of underestimated how much having 2 food and 1 production on snow carried my ass the entire game.
On the other hand, I really like Pocatello. Holy crap, it's so nice to be able to completely avoid the shitty ruin effects. No, I didn't want any gold, culture, faith, population, or new techs. I totally needed to know about that barbarian encampment that's just 4 tiles north of these ruins. Would never have found em on my own.

I love the Shoshone in Civ V! The extra tiles in new cities is super nice too.
