Atosz, Drinker of sin Breakdown
So, I wrote up a little bit of a profile and description for my demon Atosz last night, thought I'd share it here for folks who may be interested in that sort of thing
Contracts of Power
For those in dire straights, who's hearts have fallen into the depths of despair, or the raging fires of hatred, Atosz may appear. He offers freedom, or power, to change, and alter the world to one's desire, in exchange for a price. The price is never given up front, but subjects to whom he appears are often in no position to bargain with him. Victims of terrible accidents, lovers betrayed or cheated on in the grip of fury. The downtrodden. The weak. The oppressed. It is to these people he comes, to drink of their sin, as they wield his power against their enemies. Overwhelming power utilized to crush the barriers in front of them. All at the cost of their soul. It is a pact forged and sealed in blood. Time stopping as the terms and conditions are struck. The world in gray scale as negotiations commence. To seal the deal he places his mark upon them. This mark is transferable, so long as the demon has not yet come to collect. As such it is possible for tricksters to gain multiple uses of his service, though the soul offered in exchange must be purer than their own.
Patronage
For those of the arcane persuasion, it is possible to swear fealty to Atosz in exchange for his patronage, and the lending of his power. Those who utilize Atosz as the source for their power are able to draw on the strength of the demon, absorbing mana from him through a daily ritual in order to fuel their spellcasting. Atosz as a demon offers much in the form of enchantment and planar travel spells for those willing to sell themselves into his service.
For Women, Atosz requires an act of degradation and servitude to his all consuming lust. the most common method of performing this ritual involved a ceremonial phallus, often carved from granite, or obsidian, inlaid with a single large faceted garnet at it's base. Barbs are often cut into the shaft, and the servant forced to masturbate either rectally, or vaginally. This is typically a painful affair, but continued servitude inevitably causes a powerful form of masochism to take hold within the patron. As such most perform their morning ritual with gusto, over the hour required of them to call upon his power.
Men who find themselves answering the call to his power, are often utilized to spread corruption far and wide. Each morning a series of one hundred incisions are etched into the left fore arm. Deep feelings of sadism typically manifest within male subjects, as they seek to spread the suffering they are meant to undergo daily. They seek to take advantage of objects of sexual desire at every possible opportunity, fornicating with enemies before sacrificing them to the demon, or ensnaring them for Atosz's uses as a vessel.
Spells cast while being a vassal of Atosz are corrupted with a visual effect of black thorns, and the mere act of casting is enough to bring raw bliss to mages under his control. As such it is often the desire for them to use their gifts as much as possible on those around them. This holds an added benefit for the demon; Those affected by magic he's granted others, marks them as targets for demonic possession.
Demonic Possession
Although there are a number of manners in which one might become possessed by Atosz, the most common method by far is through contracting with the demon in order to achieve either a long, or short term goal. It is also possible to become a target for possession by uttering his name as part of a ritualistic summoning, or as a result of being inflicted by magic cast by a patron of the demon. Possession progresses through a series of stages.
Stage 1; Victim becomes haunted by hallucinations. Imagery before them sometimes warps, or shifts, impossible events occurring E.G Raining blood, rooms inverted or upside down, conversation partner's flesh melting. Hallucinations are usually of a nature disturbing to the subject, and as such are tailored to the individual's mind.
Stage 2; Manifestation of the demon stalking the victim begin to appear with increasing frequency. Sleep is beset with nightmares of torture and torment with the subject being the center of attention. Scenes are mixed between deeply emotional degradation, and physical suffering. Insomnia naturally develops, as feelings of rage, sorrow, hysteria amplify in frequency and power. Victims begin lashing out as paranoia sets in.
Stage 3; Physical events and trauma begin to occur. Atosz is able to at this point interact with reality around the victim as his bond becomes stronger, and the victim's terror increases. Interaction with the real world is possible for the demon at this stage, and it's not uncommon for him to toy with his victim, harming the people around them, or inflicting injury on the subject themselves, often appearing at shocking times, to interfere. The victim is no longer able to avoid nightmares, and bears the trauma of the dream world on their waking body. Reality and fantasy begin to blend into one, as they are pursued by the demon.
Stage 4; Full possession of the subject commences when the demon takes physical control of their form, and manages to accomplish an act of great evil. Subjects can attempt to wrest control of themselves away, though this takes a great deal of mental resilience. Acts attempted often include rape, murder, or suicide. Should Atosz manage to complete such an act with the victim's body, the shell surrounding their spirit shall break, and with their essence shattered, the demon consumes their soul. This robs the victim of free will, as they become completely and wholly the thrall and servant of the demon.
Exorcism, and dealing with the demon
For those poor innocents who find themselves in a contract, or haunted, there is often little that can be done to help. It is possible to attempt an exorcism, though doing so entails great risk. To expel the demon entirely, he must be brought into the physical realm, posing enormous danger to those attempting to expel him from a host. Drawn through their body, the posessee is rendered unconscious, their body the gateway to pull the demon out. Only holy weapons and magic are of any real effect against the creature in this state. Blades doused in holy water have proven effective in the hands of skilled swordsmen or clerics. Though to force a departure the demon must be beheaded, and his head anointed with holy oil. Only in this way can he be made to return to the blasted hellscape he rules over. This does not prevent him from manifesting in other marked victims however. It merely breaks the contract upon the exorcism's target.
