Character Development Block: Seeking help

Hi folks! It seems that I am running into a major road block in my galleries. I want to release a new character, but the problem is I need to flesh out the backstory for a new guy, and I need help with this one since I might consider a military background.
I don't know if I will have the research or mindset to build one, which is why I need help for ideas or suggestions as to how I should develop my character. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated in this tremendous endeavor!

Hmm. I believe first he'd need a motivation to get into the military. A lifelong dream? Does he come from a military family? Was he a problem kid who went to the military to straighten out? After the motivation can come anything else, such as family, friends, hobbies, vices, quirks, etc. Every tiny bit adds to the character, so you could go for as much or as little as you wish.

Well, I mean we'd need some more info on what you've got at the moment and a general idea of where you want to take this before we'd be able to suggest anything. What did you have in mind?
