VR rat animation
Hello
As some of you may know I've been working on a rat girl & m otter animation for quite a while now. (not very actively as I don't have much time to work on this stuff) The animation will be 360 degree, stereoscopic video which should look nice on VR goggles (otter's perspective on the events, can be viewed without vr goggles) I posted about it on Inkbunny recently and got few people to test it. (low res wip rendering) Apparently it works fine so now the only problem is absymal rendering times. And that is after I get some polishing done on the animation. I's now mostly done but still lacks many things.
I'm lazy so I just copy what I wrote on Inkbunny:
"I've done some testing and it seems I may have to wait until Blender 2.8 is released (late this year I think) to render the rat animation. It will take at least 16-17 days of rendering 24/7 currently and I'm not sure if I can do that. At 2160x1200 it takes ~10 minutes / frame (including both L/R) and that will likely increase as I add stuff to the scene
Blender 2.8 has realtime renderer Eevee which should get such a simple animation rendered easily but I'm not sure if it can handle stereoscopic 360 rendering. I tried the current wip 2.8 version but it is completely broken still and I couldn't get anything done with it. Gotta wait and see I suppose.
Anyway, there's still a lot of polishing to do to get the animation in releasable quality so don't expect anything anytime soon. The animation currently has 2425 frames. I have everything animated except for possible extra ending scene. I'm not sure if it's necessary. Gotta think about it.
Also again, I'd really like to get some sounds for the animation so if you know someone who does sounds for animations I would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction. :) "
That's all. :) So just letting you know that I may have to wait until late this year to render the animation. Although it is possible that it won't even be finished by that time :P
Also as I mentioned above would be nice to have sounds on the animation so if you can help with that, let me know. :)
Yes it won't be pleasant experience for the rat girl.

One of the big problems with rendering for VR is to make sure your samples are high enough to remove as much noise as possible since noise has a tendency to ruin the whole VR experience. Of course, you already know, as you increase samples, your render times go right off the chart :| ( One of the reasons I used to keep the sequences so short: Can't have my system rendering 24/7 for a month :| )
Next thought I would ask is " Do you really need 360 degrees ? " as the vast majority of folks are going to be watching a much smaller area the majority of the time. I would think 180 degrees would be enough, but it may not really impact the overall render times unless the rest of the scene has crazy amounts of stuff in it to render.
At any rate, nice to see you're still animating :D My own motivation got in a space ship and flew off somewhere lol
The noise removal system in cycles works quite well but yeah I still need relatively high samples.
I think the feeling of being there would be better with 360 degrees but I can test it out I suppose.
Well I do struggle with my motivation too sometimes and I don't have enough time to work on this stuff anyway but trying my best to get stuff done. :)
