Oh sure, I'd read LEGENDS of using Mario Paint to make ASTOUNDING MUSIC VIDEOS by using your VCR to record the video output, but such wizardry was beyond me.

Hehe, we had to use our SNES through our VCR, so it was all quite elementary. :P

I used to record myself being a radio DJ. This consisted of turning down the volume on the radio and hoping everyone was having a "rockin' cool time" and making guesses as to who our "special guest hit" was gonna be before turning the volume back up to N'Sync.

I videotaped the Mew glitch from Red/Blue/Yellow Pokémon games. Just used my VHS player and recorded the whole game from start to glitch.

Quality is as good as it gets, poor but not as bad as those kids who camcord their TV screen.

Oh yeah, I was using the GB Tower mode on Pokémon Stadium II to record.

I used to do my own audio casset tape recordings for hints and such for games, like I was a living guide book walkthrough for SNES games. Glad there was no youtube back then otherwise I'd never live it down. Those tapes burned up real good. ;3

I made diary entries that were comprised mostly of polaroids with short text clips throughout the day. The cost was too prohibitive so it only lasted until my parents stopped buying me film but it was basically flickr and twitter before the internet was something that you bothered to check for updates.

Oh god, haha ... Yeah, Retsupurae covered this guy, too. How does he DO it? How does he make hundreds and hundreds of Let's Play videos with the same extreme over-exuberance without suffering an aneurysm?

I actually find him funnier without the Retsupurae commentary. I want to hang out with that guy. I'd totally get into doing crazy voices with him while playing games.

I think part of what helps is that he probably gets a few bucks every now and then. I noticed a link for "donations" on his channel page. I know I could certainly do many things for the right amount of money.

Heheh, I remember when I used to have an old radio with a casette recorder. Man the stupid things I've recorded and some of them are still on the tape I used - because I did use only one tape, lol - I couldn't find blank tapes any more, it's like trying to find blank VCR casettes these days.

By the way, I think you've waited a very long time to have an opportunity to say "kids these days". :P

You hooked a Windows 95 machine to the internet? How many viruses did you catch?

Actually you won't catch any these days. Worms are the only ones that can actually spread without user intervention, and they do that using Windows File Sharing vulnerabilities, but these are only available on NT systems. Windows 95/98/Me are immune to self replicating worms.

Besides, I'm never hooking up a PC to the internet without using a hardware firewall (a router / home gateway).

I never camcordered my games, but I never had a camcorder. I theorized at some point that if I connected the RF input from my Genesis to the VCR and set the VCR to record the same channel the Genesis used, I could record the game...and so it was. Interestingly enough, though, I never really did anything with that; I think I never had much reason to do it. When I did my student teaching, however, I actually recorded a myself playing through a level in Zombies Ate My Neighbors because the music was based on a piece by the composer Bela Bartok. I brought in the tape and played it for the class I was teaching, just as kindof an amusing little break. They told me I as good, too! I think I had Game Genie on, though...I needed it to skip directly to the level, and I think I put on a couple of other cheats for good measure, just so the level wouldn't take too long to beat. blablbalbalbalbablablablablablablabhahbahabhblhbalhbalh

I definitely did a lot of stupid shit with audio cassettes, although often enough I did it with the help and cooperation of friends. We made fun of people, called other friends and got them to say stupid or embarrassing things, and occasionally acted out some characters improv-style. One of my friends also made one where he said it was "time to make the baby squeak!" and proceeded to squeeze his family's new puppy until it squeaked. It was both funny and a little frightening. I think we both might still have some of those tapes...

I found this old tape from way back, when I got my hands on a Talkboy. The tape was barely audible because of natural deterioration, but somehow at the time I thought it would be found in the future and have some interesting reflection on things described in the tape...

Kinda spooky actually... but yeah, I did weird stuff with recording devices as a kid myself.
