With NSFW content getting the axe on Tumblr...
...Just reminds me to be thankful that Furaffinity is still around and going strong.
This definitely is a wake up call/reminder of sorts to never to put all of one's eggs into a single basket. Or rather an image gallery in this case.
I'm trying to maintain my twitter better these days just in case but I definitely still prefer things here.
Especially since who is to say twitter doesn't end up just doing what tumblr did at some point lol.
Regardless, here is my twitter for anyone who does like or prefer that platform:
https://twitter.com/AmythFloof
I will be uploading all work going forward unto there as well so long as I'm able to!
Might look into other galleries as well just in case. FA will always be my main squeeze barring anything too wild happening here.

atleast it didnt get you down too much
I did use it from time to time for brainstorming/finding reference material for like lingerie ideas and such. So there went my single use of it basically, haha.
First, Tumblr was brought up last year, again. There are a couple of layers of corporate ownership in between, but they are actually owned by Verizon. Companies like Verizon do value their reputation and respectability (stop laughing), so it's likely that Tumblr were already being pressured from on high to do something about the very large quantity of porn their service hosted.
Secondly, there's the app store ban. We don't know exactly what happened there - the official reason is that child pornography was found, but how much and who by? That's all secret. It might have been just one image, and I don't think there's a social network where you couldn't find some if you really dug deep enough. The store ban may have been an overreaction, or not, we don't know. We do know it placed an immediate financial pressure on Tumblr: It's costing them money. They want back in that store, and they want back in now, which means there's no time for a slow manual review of all hosted content. A hurried purge is fastest route.
Thirdly, there's advertising. It's the same problem that's caused Youtube to start demonetising videos left and right, especially political commentary, religion and sexuality. Advertisers really care about brand associations, and they don't want their ad playing right before some conspiracy theorist starts yelling at the camera or a cringy activist starts espousing some fringe views. They really don't want their adverts appearing next to porn, especially some of the fetishy stuff that is popular on Tumblr. Which means such material is just not profitable: It drives advertisers away.
If Tumblr wanted to just rid themselves of child porn, they already use a very effective screening program utilising an international database of known images compiled by law enforcement. But it's more likely they already have commercial reasons to rid themselves of a lot of the adult content, and the claimed child pornography finding is merely the trigger that escalated the issue to urgent priority. This would have happened anyway, eventually.
Thanks for the suggestion :)
I honestly feel like the NSFW stuff was a huge appeal to the site.
Right? *looks around* Right? *getting nervous* Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?
Back when I first found Furaffinity it being NSFW friendly was the main appeal for people to come here instead of deviantart lol
But now that Tumblr's getting axed I find myself following alot of tumblr sites, which is a mixed bag. I worry art might get drowned out there as I don't check my feed that often. Mainly only go there when I'm on the move, but being out in public I don't want to whip out the ol' twitter with like 80% followed people being NSFW artists. Just asking for a awkward moment with someone seeing what I'm looking at.
I agree completely about the being thankful part. I had briefly dabbled in tumblr myself before letting it fall to the wayside.
You bring up a really good point though. Sites like twitter and tumblr having such a variety of content on them can make them rather dicey to just browse publicly if you follow a bunch of NSFW artists.
Whiiich is why I like FA and other art galleries in general. They're more about the art itself and more focused in general. Twitter and tumblr were always a bit chaotic for my tastes haha.
On FA though its much easier for people to find your art. As I'm sure I'm not the only one with a large feed that has the chance of having artists' posts get drowned out in all other things and simply not get to it when scrolling through their feed.
I hope you find a good balance though!
