2018 - The Circle's Edge

Another year is coming to an end and waiting to be reviewed by this pup.
To be honest, I haven't really been active on here lately. But maybe that'll change again soon.
In my 2017 review, I mentioned that in recent years, the uneven-numbered years had always been pretty awesome, while the even-numbered ones hadn't been as good. Did that trend continue in 2018? Let's find out!
At the beginning it certainly looked like it. The start of 2018 certainly wasn't my favourite part of the year. Not everything was bad - for example, I did pretty well on my guitar exam at uni in late January - but quite a few things happened that I could have done without. My sisters constant temper tantrums for example. Temper tantrums from a 27-year old woman. It's not easy for me to just stay relaxed when someone keeps screaming that they're wishing death upon you. Screaming matches in this house aren't that uncommon. But that wasn't even the worst.
After my grandpa fell in December 2017 and ended up just being a shadow of himself, it was clear that it was only gonna keep going downhill. By mid-February, he was barely eating or drinking anymore. It seemed like had resigned from life and was more or less waiting to die. And by mid-March, it was clear that he was approaching his final days, when he caught a cold. He ended up just laying in bed, only breathing, nothing else. Too weak to move or speak, and even breathing pauses were common. But a strong heart kept him alive for nearly two weeks. He died in the early morning hours of Tuesday, 27th March. And as much as we all loved him, it was a relief for everyone. Including grandpa. The last two weeks were nothing more than a drag and a painful fight to watch.
A few days after he died, I saw him at the funeral home. They had laid him out dressed in a suit and he looked like he was sleeping and smiling. As if he was telling us: "Don't worry, the fight is over, I have found peace." And seeing him like that really helped me. Yes, he was dead, but it was much more comforting for me that the last time I ever saw him was him laying there peacefully. A few days later he was cremated, and his funeral was in early April.
That was the worst part of the year.
But the year certainly had some great sides as well! In mid-April, some of my friends asked me if I was interested to go to a WWE show with them in May. Of course I said yes. I loved pro wrestling as a teenager, and I still enjoy it. So it was amazing to actually see a WWE live show on 10th May this year. One of the major highlights of 2018 for me.
Another big highlight of 2018 lasted for 6 weeks. From early June until mid-July, I did an internship at Radio Q, my uni's radio station. The people there (all students at Münster University, just like me) were awesome to work with, and it was incredibly fun to plan the music playlists for shows, do research, and most of all, record and create my own little segments. In fact, it was so fun that in early November, I made it a hobby and created my own podcast, Virtual Paddock, about motorsports and sim racing. Check it out!
Speaking of sim racing, that was probably my main hobby this year. My passion for sim racing pretty much equals my passion for music now. After I got my Logitech G29 for Christmas in 2017, I ended up making quite a few upgrades in 2018. I got a Playseat Challenge in June (not mine in the picture, although I do have the same wheel), in September I got some mods to make the brake pedal more progressive in resistance and stiffer overall (thus more realistic as well), and recently I finally got a much better computer that I can actually run all the current racing games on.
Another pretty awesome thing happened in mid-August, when I went to the island Fehmarn with my family for 4 days. I loved being at the Baltic Sea again. The scent of the air there is just something special. And as a nice bonus, the restaurant Quintings has the best burgers in the entire world! If you ever go to Fehmarn, you have to eat there at least once. You will not be disappointed!
Yet another highlight this year that happened in August and September actually goes back to May or mid-June, when I met a guy from about 30km away on a german gay website. We had a lot of really nice chats, and in August we finally met up, 2 days before I went to Fehmarn actually. We took some pretty long walks through my village that afternoon and evening, and later went to sit on a park bench. He put his arm around my shoulder, and it was just awesome. There was some tension though, we both wanted more, but didn't wanna say it. But luckily, it ended up happening. We kissed. A lot. French kisses. It was amazing. First time in 5 years that I got kissed.
And it didn't stop there. A week later, I went to his place. And guess what happened. Yes, we not only kissed, but we had sex. As dirty as it sounds, I need to say this: it was awesome to finally suck dick again. We fucked again about two weeks later. Though that was the last time we've had sex until now. We did meet up once again in November, but just for a comedy show, seeing Die Echse (the lizard) live. It was hilarious and both of us really enjoyed it.
Btw, we didn't end up dating, just FWB. Also, I didn't tell him about ABDL, though I'd love to find a guy I could do ABDL and diaper stuff with. There are quite a few things I'd still like to try, I'm kinky as hell!
In mid-October, I once again got to sit in a racing car. Project 1 Motorsport brought a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to my village again. And just like last year, people could touch it, sit in it. Not drive it though. Instead, I could do that in sim racing though, the car is in quite a few games. And recently I actually found a skin for the exact car I sat in! Of course I had to get that one.
This time, the whole thing inspired me so much that I ended up writing a song about racing in a Porsche 911. One of only two songs I wrote this year. The other one will also be mentioned soon in this review.
Speaking of music, just a while before that, in late September, I got two new piano students, two brothers that I both know through judo. Especially the younger one has absolutely amazed me with how ambitious he is. I teach him something one week, and at the beginning of the next lesson, he suddenly plays something a step above what we had last done, so I was struggling to keep up with my planning. But that's a problem a teacher somewhat wants to have. It's fantastic to see a student enjoy it so much!
Mid-October also meant going back to uni though. And my timetable this semester is a nightmare. I'm way too fucking busy. And I feel like I'm not learning that much anymore, uni's starting to feel a little pointless. Worst of all, I have to take Latin once again this semester. Gaius Iulius Caesar is a fucking cunt.
Anyay, coming back to the question I asked at the beginning. Did 2018 manage to break the cycle of awesome uneven year alternating with not-as-good even year? (Though 2016 was actually okay, but just nothing special, and 2013, '15 and '17 were much better.)
Despite what happened early in the year, I'd say yes. Overall, it was a pretty good year. Of course my grandpa's death was horrible, but on the other hand, 2018 gave me a lot of awesome experiences.
Which is why I chose the title "The Circle's Edge". It's the title of a song I wrote in January, for a songwriting class at uni. The lyrics are about things always being the same, and wanting that to change. "Guide me to find the circle's edge", that's what I sing in the chorus. Well, I have finally found the circle's edge.
Let's hope the cycle hasn't just reversed, but has actually been broken. Here's to a good 2019!
