It's surely the road on a vengeful streak. A good repaving would get it to chill out.

That's planned for sometime later this year. Until then I think I'll take alternate routes.

That was happening to my sister a few years ago. It seemed like every month or two, she'd end up with a screw stuck in one her her car's tires. It was really annoying.

It is very annoying, especially when they always seem to get in the sidewall so they have to replace the whole tire.

All I can recommend is to stay off the roads heavily traveled by construction and handyman trucks.

I know that feeling... Right now I share your pain. I'm trying to get my car to pass inspection. :P It's failed twice. It runs fine, no lights are on, but they keep telling me my oxygen sensor is saying 'not ready'. The guy that has been helping me doesn't really explain it well, he just tells me it fails and I have to come back. He told me to drive it for a week but did not say how much or explain a drive cycle. I came back in a week and it failed again. He then tells me I need to drive to Houston (a one hour drive) to which the internet said 5 minutes at highway speed should do it. (UGH).

After a half hour out of town and the same back, I did the rest of my errands and bled off my irritation. If it fails again I just hope I don't lose my head. I don't want to have to replace anything or spend money when there is literally nothing wrong.

I'm tired of hearing 'state requirements, nothing we can do, come back later'.

I'd do a little research on the internet to find out what the heck that means if they won't tell you. Here's hoping that it worked.

Yeah, other than a malfunctioning oxygen sensor which I'm pretty sure I don't have, the only thing I can think of is I hadn't to that point completed a drive cycle since unlike a lot of people I don't usually hit the highway.

It's been a few days now, any better news?

Yes, thank goodness. My car passed. Apparently a mechanic friend told me they could have passed me the first time despite what they said. The check engine light was never on, and I told them what the problem had been (loose gas cap). Evidently they could have cleared it and tested it again and passed me.

Instead they told me it failed and to come back in a week. They told me to drive it for a week but did not explain a drive cycle or the required highway driving, assuming I would do so as part of my routine. In reality I live and work in town so this would never happen unless I chose to go to the movies or airport. I didn't, and so it was predestined to fail wasting a second trip which they just told me 'I can't make you pass," and to come back a third time. By this time it was getting close and I was frustrated by lack of answers. The guy just shrugged his shoulders and sent me on my way. I did the highway driving and my own research to learn what a drive cycle was, and came back for a third time.

This time I saw my regular person there, who tested it and I passed. It was such a pain.

At least it passed that third time. They really need to do a better job explaining things the first time round. Good grief.

I had a tire that was a magnet for nails or screws. It also mysteriously would go flat without reason. Only way I fixed it was to buy new tires.

Well, I have two new tires in the last five months. We'll see.

It's just not safe for delicate rubber paws out there these days...

I misread "tires" as "eyes". There's shoddy luck, and then… well, that. And inflating an eye sounds like a terribly unhealthy idea.

As small a solace as it may be, at least the offending metal hit rubber instead of flesh!
