Universe Is A Troll
Just a quick little message,
The universe is funny in how much it trolls you sometimes. Worked all week last week excitedly awaiting my two day weekend, which just so happens once I saw next weeks schedule today turns out to be a three day weekend.. something that probably comes once in a blue moon. What happens? Lilly suffers her first actual break-down situation where we're actually stranded and I've been dealing with trying to get it fixed the last two days and will be taking her to the shop tomorrow my last day off.
I was driving along and suddenly at a stoplight her engine stalls out, it was so subtle I didn't even feel it or notice it till I went to go again at a green. Soon after on the way back her RPMs started bouncing lower higher lower higher as she was trying to stall out again. She kept going till I was off the main road and into the neighborhood. My mech roomate came by and together we pulled her gas sending unit and replaced the fuel pump right there on the side of the road at night. After a few starts she finally started and we got her home again. We went most of the way at like 10mph then at the end drove normally the last mile or so.
Now she's stable for the most part but still has a tendency to die at idle (only when I'm not trying to get her to.. frustratingly enough) and still has the odd hiccup when driving and seems to have some of her power sapped overall. We swapped out her purge control valve on a hunch, not sure if it made anything better or not.. the new one is definitely quieter then the old one..
Anyway just wanted to share, I expected to draw these nights.. ate into the night.. get some work done finally but alas.. all the stress from this has had me exhausted to where I fall asleep at like 10pm. The universe has quite the sense of humor.

Do you know what could have caused her to stall like that? Since you were able to get her started, I think we rule out her alternator being the problem. I’m sure you’ve been having her fluids and oil changed on time, and the likely hood of you letting her run out of gas is a solid zero percent chance. What do you think it could be? Is there a Hyundai dealership that you could take her to get checked out? If they can find the problem, you might know how to fix it, right? Oh, I’m sorry to freak out, I’m just so worried for her. I’ve always loved Lilly, and I couldn’t bear the thought of something happening to her. :(
You'd be right, I just had her whole charging system checked within the last couple weeks, battery and alternator is fine. Her fuel-pump was the original.. with 199,000 miles on it so I think it probably went bad. The last quirks I think relate to the different emissions valves, a vacuum leak, or something electrical... I'm taking her to the doctor for a diagnosis tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
I mean yeah, the filter is changed, we didn't change the strainer though.
Ignition system is all new, new plugs, wires, and coil.
The purpose of a MAF/MAP sensor is to simply tell the engine computer how much air is entering the cylinders, so it'll adjust the air-fuel ratio.
Another way you can tell if Lily is stalling out is to see if she's out of time, I think ChrisFix did a video on how to see if an engine won't start and in it he said his neighbor's Honda Civic experienced the same problem Lily had - dying out of nowhere. I could post the link when I'm not busy.
