i remember when you were actually allowed to get excited for videogames and games didnt have to be magnificent masterpieces to be considered fun.

I've always learned to be thankful for the things you get, but never take it for granted because you may not always have them forever.

I've been liking what I see of the new versions, tbh. The gyms actually seem like a big deal for once. It's a full on production. Audiences in the stands watching contestants battle it out. The shows have made gym battles seem like spectated events for a while. The games are finally reflecting that more.

They have shown they want to make this game on a grander scale than what they could do on the 3DS. I mean, in Let's Go, the gyms had spectators watching you.

I doubt any bootleg game could ever hope to put that much effort into a game.

I recall a similar trend of salty naysayers when Sun and Moon came out. Many were upset over there not being proper gyms. They did not pay attention to the story and all of Alola. The worst offenders are usually the "purists" and the old-school fans. My first version was Red. I'm interested in the new versions. My dilemma is I have no idea which starter to pick.

IDK, I have always been a fan of the old school gens but never cared for the new stuff all too much. Guess I never cared what anyone thinks since I know I can never make everyone happy. Why should I be unhappy because someone else want's me to be. I should not succumb to that level for anyone else that does not care for me. Does not matter what their PokéDex looks like, it's what we like about it.

Follow my advice, keep a low profile until one month post the sword/shield release, things should be calmer after that, because there will be an actual game that can actually be praised/criticized.

I personally have not been as interested in getting new games after Gen 5 which was the last one I enjoyed. I gotta say that this one almost has me back tho, I just think the quality of the game isn't what it could be at this point, but I might still get it just to get a new pkmn game after so many years myself. I don't really socialize with communities because gaming communities or people in general these days are waaaaaaay too toxic… *cough* smash community for example *cough* but I do enjoy talking about such stuff with people I know aren't toxic about it. I think it's all about finding the right circle of people to talk about such things, but being 100% public about anything these days is almost guaranteed to meet toxic people, it really sucks. Also I just don't let others decide for me what I enjoy or not, if they disagree that's their problem but that shouldn't change what you still like :) even if it sucks to have a more limited way of talking about it with fewer people, heh.

I never understood the appeal of Gen 5. I know people praise it a lot, but they need to not let it go to their heads.

My personal favorite is gen 3. And tbh gen 2 still gets the most praise of all, but to each their own of course. My least favorite is gen 4, so yeah... lol. On another hand i wish such a cool concept as pkmn masters wasnt wasted as a mobile game... oh well

This is the same problem I have with Final Fantasy XV.

I think the worst part is that the exact opposite can occur as well. There are those who are flat-out bashing detractors in the harshest way possible. I think neither side is better than the other. Just stay FAR away from Twitter and Reddit as that's where the toxicity's at its strongest.

I still plan on getting the games and I'm gonna judge them by their own merits. You shouldn't let these guys get to you.

At this point, I’ve personally been trying my hardest to avoid the circlejerk involving Sword and Shield. The internet always does this with any beloved series going going through substancial change, and at this point, I think it’s best to just ignore or even avoid those that are taking time out of their day to shit on some game that hasn’t come out yet. I have my own issues with the decisions regarding development, and Gamefreak’s handling of the backlash is laughable to say the least, but I’m withholding judgment until I play the game for myself. Kiv, if some entitled shitheads are giving you heat for drawing Pokémon, just block them and move on. They’re an obnoxious vocal minority. We’d hate to see you leave Pokémon behind because of a bunch of petty jerks.

I have no defense for the people going on the offensive with people still excited for Sword and Shield, those people are just assholes jumping on a bandwagon. But I also really am just not wanting to play Sw/Sh because of how lacking I feel the whole affair is. At most, I'll probably pick it up a little while after release that way it's not tallied alongside all the initial purchases but I still like Pokemon and still want them making it. I just want it to be better than it was on handhelds since we're making the jump to console, y'know?

I believe they stated they wanted Sw/Sh to be more of a handheld experience rather than a console one.

And, true, we really haven't seen any particularly interesting things outside of the Wild Area. I do hope there are some side things you can do for fun in the games or they'll have some nice postgame activities you can do (honestly, I'm starting to think the northern part of Galar is all postgame. The tower makes me think of the Battle Tower/Tree).

I remember a time where one could have their own opinions and people would simply say "that's nice", not care about it, and leave them alone with their opinions.

It has come to the point where people are no longer allowed to have their own opinions. "I like Pokémon!" "Oh yeah? You're WRONG."

You can like whatever you want to like. If other people get butthurt about your opinion, they can politely stroke/flick it. Personally, I welcome the additions to the gaming world.

Don't let those people bother you -they're just the same social media punks that only exist to have something to complain about. I have my own mixed opinions about the game but belittling someone for being interested in it is just a sign of their own insecurity. The decision is yours and yours alone.

I'm a Pokemon fan despite the games, not because of them.

Pokemon games are shit since 1996, and I uphold this opinion since I bought the first one.
The games lack in almost every capacity. Their story, characters, presentation and gameplay.
Not kidding I was quitting Nintendo products, because this was all across Nintendos portfolio.

Fast forward to 2014 I came to love Lucarios design, and the was Gamefreak presented them in X and Y. (odd right)
Today I can clearly see the huge flaws of sun and moon, and their Ultra counterparts.
Although my hopes around the new games are low, and my skepticism is high, I will still be buying the games.

Why? Because I want to see Lucario hopping around he screen, which screen ever.
I am purely fan of the design of Lucarios and part of their specific fan base, and the porn scene.
The general fanbase of the games and the hole thing going on about the games doesn't bother me at all.

And I'll still buy the games.

I never got into pokemon until Gen 4. Didn't know anything about playing the games at the time.

Fell off until Gen 6 came out when I decided to pick up X to add to my 3DS library. Fell back in love with the series and have always been waiting for the next adventure in a new region with new pokemon.

Play fangames. They're better than the official games by a huge margin and the communities built around them are open, friendly, and dedicated.

Eh, I've seen some interesting fangames. I just don't play games on my laptop though. Never saw a reason to, you know?

The reasons fans are mad with GF is because they cut half the pokemon. The excuse of ''There's too many pokemon'' going around is a poor excuse in order to defend GF. This is why GF seems lazy. As they used ''Quality animation as an excuse.''

Time to rip that apart: Okay, firstly they already have all the existing models in Sun and Moon. So people saying there is not enough time to make all the models is BS. They are already there. Walking cycles and all. All they would have to do is update the textures. That's not a difficult task and they have had plenty of time to do it. Though Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon battle revolution are games that are over 10 years old that are animated way better then the main line games. There isn't any real excuses as to why GF cannot put all the pokemon in Sword and Shield. I should note that most people would of been okay with GF poor animations if they had added all the pokemon. Which they have the models to do so. All they needed to do would have been update the textures. They didn't need to be pokemon in the Galar dex. They just needed to be Pokemon in the national dex so they could be transferred to sword and shield.

You can kind of understand why people are upset with GF. They keep taking away features they add into the games. Like mega's, they cut half the pokemon, there excuse is because of quality and competitive play.

I won't get into the competitive arguments but I will say having less pokemon will force a lot more competitive players to use the same pokemon and there won't be much variety in teams you will see and so there excuse about competitive play is BS whenever this is why they had a regional dex and a national dex with rules in tournaments.

After all that's been said, I am not saying as a stand alone title that Pokemon Sw&SH can't be good games. They can be a fun play through I am sure of that but they lack any post game value (because people cant battle with friends with their fave pokemon + people who like completing the dex cannot anymore. It's no longer gotta catch em all.) and because they are switch games they cost more than 3ds games and have less content. At the end of the day, it feels like a scam to some and a lot of people feel betrayed by GF. I am not saying you can't buy these games but I can understand why people are a lil upset if others do.

You are partly right. I don't dislike the games. I love pokemon but I am just not blind to the games glaring problems. I gave proper criticisms to why me and many others are displeased with SW/SH. That doesn't mean I won't play it myself. I just said maybe don't buy it right away or within first year but I know a lot will. Which is why some fans are upset since if the game sells well. People keep mentioning this knockoff game. Keep in mind that this game has less than 1/3 of the pokedex available, pokemon only have 2 moves, and there's nothing else significant added to the game such as in-depth training, breeding, etc. So that improved animation did come with removing probably all the pokemon people considered their favorites.

Heck they are constantly compared to Breath of the wild and they look a lot worse. Or even the newest Yokai watch and btw it's being released with only 100 monsters about they are patching in 700 more later! Well, I'm pretty glad I'm not into that whole group from the sounds of it...I understand the frustration in trying to get your favorite Pokemon from one generation of games to the current one (like trying to get a totodile to ultramoon...) Or not having them at all in the newest game, but that's like complaining that Cloud isn't a playable character in every final fantasy game, or that your favorite side character is left out of the latest fighting game roster. It just happens.

There's still plenty to enjoy about Pokemon outside of the core series of games. I put hundreds of hours into Pokemon go and that community, there's the Pokemon dungeon games, the anime, the manga which is really good and is the "real" Pokemon universe in my uneducated opinion, and way more realistic than the games and anime. Plus collecting and playing the card game. I'm enjoying art, getting a ref sheet done of my own character, playing ultramoon, playing a little Pokemon go, watching the anime, reading the manga, collecting and playing the card game, buying plushes, and I have nothing to do with the online community.

There's a hundred ways they could improve on the core Pokemon games, but I'm concerned about the gameplay, not animations or lacking all the Pokemon... I'd like a truly dynamic, open world with more interesting training methods, where it just doesn't matter what level or iv your Pokemon is and you can't just best a gym leader 20 minutes after you started.

People are entitled to their own opinions but writing everyone who doesn't like the game as desperate and pathetic seems pretty hypocritical, as well as hand-waving all their reasons as questionable. People expect a good product because Pokémon is the #1 top grossing IP in the entire world, it's made several billions of dollars, so there's no excuse for GF to cut all the corners that they did. Pokémon also doesn't own the concept of catching monsters to use in battle, writing off something like Yokai Watch as a failure just because it can't compete to the top grossing IP in the world is pretty dumb, and if you're going off of sales numbers and popularity to judge the quality of something, then by that logic EA and Activision must be great companies.

Actually that's not only an issue in the Pokémon fandom these days, that happens everywhere. People these days think they need to throw their opinion about something against everybody that has another and that is really sad. It happens especially because of social media, because they stay anonym and there is barely something possible to stop them.
