Check out Golden Treasure y'all
So recently I've been completely enamored with this text based game called Golden Treasure: The Great Green, and to all you dragons out there, or even just people that can enjoy a good text based survival game with BEAUTIFUL visuals, writing, and music, listen up:
This game is really unlike any other game I've played before. You play as a dragon, already unique enough right? But in this world, dragons are very feral and animalistic. The game can become very detached from human thought processes, and really forces you to come at it from a much more primal point of view. You hunt prey, you defend and expand your territory, you collect treasure for your hoard, and there's even allegedly an emphasis on mating season, but I haven't gotten there yet.
Which brings me to my first major praise, THIS GAME IS HAAAAARD. But it's fair in the sense that it should be hard, you're surviving as a wild animal basically, even as a dragon life is tough in the wild. Like, you start out as just a hatchling, and freaking so many things can kill you. Took me multiple tries just to reach adolescence and claim my first territory, but it honestly only gets freaking harder from there as now you have to fight other DRAGONS to defend your territory, not just wild animals as before. And the animals aren't the only things that can kill you in this game. Plants, diseases, forces of nature, everything is against you and can kill you. I've been playing for a while and I've still never reached adulthood or my first mating season, but I really do appreciate that. You truly have to be resourceful to survive, and with many games catering towards more and more casual audiences, this is honestly a welcome challenge.
Also this game is freaking beautiful. Like, the amount of QUALITY art of dragons, beautiful vistas, and other creatures that you get to witness in your playthrough is easily worth the buying price alone. But its not just the art, the writing is really good. It can get very spiritual and philosophical at times, but that really just helps flesh out the world more, as even though the game is very beast-like, dragons still seek out knowledge and wisdom, setting them apart from the rest of the animals. But the writing in general is so professional and expertly done, its almost always an enjoyable read! And the music is really freaking good too. Beautiful piano tracks and environmental noises, it absorbs me into the world personally. All of this combined, this game has made me very emotional at times, more than anything in years honestly.
But this brings me to my biggest point, Dreaming Door Studios is like, the best game dev team ever. So many hours in to one of my runs, my save data got corrupted. I didn't lose, and yet my only option was to start over again. It was honestly heartbreaking. Nothing I could do would bring it back. So as a last ditch effort, I emailed Dreaming Door about the problem, not really expecting to get my save back, but at least so that they could figure out what went wrong and prevent it from happening to others with a bug fix. BUT THEY ACTUALLY CAME THROUGH AND FIXED MY SAVE FILE! They sent it back to me completely fixed, right where I left off! So yeah, not only is the game amazing, but the company behind it is too.
So yeah, I highly recommend this game. I haven't even come close to experiencing all it has to offer, and I'm still confident in my recommendation! When I finish, I'll probably write a more complete review, but this game will certainly keep me occupied for a long time. If anything I've said interests you, there is a free demo that you can try out, and if you decide to buy, it keeps your progress in the demo, so no reason not to really! Please do check it out, and if you do end up playing it, I'd love to talk about it with ya!
