What I choose to believe

Identity
It is something that means little to some while to others it’s everything. I have banned a person from my daughters server who made a comment that is borderline hate speech, saying “you can’t be a woman of culture if you were born with a penis and no boobs or vagina”
This turns my stomach for many reasons.
First of which, I myself have been struggling with identity. For years I felt that I lost who I truly was. It wasn’t until I came to a nice little discord server and met a precious kitty that I was able to find myself. Erza Bear is the identity that I wish I was in real life. However, where and who I am in real life makes it impossible. It’s very common for me to be surrounded by transphobic or homophobic people. I try my best to ignore their views on those subjects cause I believe that friends can still be friends even if they disagree on things.
However, a good chunk of my friends that I have made on discord are either gay or trans. I have grown very fond of them. I know a couple who are struggling with their own identity. And for someone to say that they cannot be a “woman of culture” is trying to prohibit the person from fully experiencing that identity. Who are we to say no?
The person who I banned also said it was not sexism. To say that makes the person not feel recognized as their new identity. To say that he was banned for a “stupid” reason shows that he fails to realize how his comments affect others.
Yes, a person has the right to believe what they wish. But saying what he did imposes his belief on others. While his words were not exactly forceful, they do carry weight. If he said “ I don’t believe in trans” then that will be simply stating his belief. But what he said was beyond that.
I know that not everyone can believe in everything. But this letter is something that I am putting out to clarify my stance.
I did over react to the person. I agree to that. I was burning with rage. Really I should have backed off to clear my head before addressing it. But I still believe what I did was right. He showed no sign of realizing his wrong doing. And to add, I put this ban to a vote and not one person voted to allow him to stay. Not one.
So summarize, I believe that you can have your own beliefs. Not everyone will agree. But comments that are even borderline hate speech can hurt people and what he did can be seen as trying to deny a persons identity.

Not fully denying their identity, rather an aspect of it. Preventing them the joy of experiencing what it’s like to finally be a man or woman
Not every transgender gets the surgery due to it either being too expensive or the risks of surgery scare them.
Even though the government can recognize a persons new identity.
Though it requires going through a lot of red tape.
But at the end, narrow minded people like the man who made that comment won’t recognize their new identity and try to tear them down even if their government identification says what their new identity is
