Differentiating between long and short audio?
Heya!
I've been having some thoughts recently. The more little doodles I do with audio, the more I want to like, have some sort of indication of whether or not something I make is a full, long POV, or a shorter fun doodle. It's a little hard to do this with just an icon. But I can't imagine it's the best thing in the world for someone to look at an icon for something I put up, and have no idea if it's a 30-second doodle or a 9-minute POV. I don't as much like having no way to indicate whether or not something is a major project or just a random side thing. I've got some thoughts on how to fix this, but I'm wondering if anyone else has an opinion too?
My current thoughts on fixing this:
- Put the length up in the thumbnail, probably in a corner.
Pros: Easy to tell at a glance how long it is. SUPER easy to tell at a glance how it is.
Cons: Icons are tiny enough already and I don't have anywhere good I can slot them in. Would probably have to get rid of other information or awkwardly shove the length in there. Or have the length in over top of the already-limited space the subject of the icon gets. Maybe replace the (Vore Audio) bit of the icon?
- Put the length in the title.
Pros: Also easy to tell at a glance how long it is. Doesn't take up icon space.
Cons: I dunno it's kinda weird to put it there. Awkward position.
- Have clear distinction between 'doodle' and 'pov'.
Pros: Would be clear.....mostly. Doodles would be ~1-2 minute-long stuff, or things without as much work put into them. Voice + a few sound effects, essentially.
Cons: Not even sure where to indicate something like this. Not like my audio has these strict limits anyway? Something 5 minutes long could be a "doodle" and just, yeah. Shrug.
- Put (Short) or (Long) in the icon instead of (Vore Audio)
Pros: Would be clear enough for the purposes of the icon.
Cons: Well, people might like to know whether or not something is vore before they click on it. Otherwise there could be regular people that are suddenly getting vore, and vore people that were expecting vore and didn't get it. This might not be a huge number though.
Humgh. So yeah. I haven't got any ideas of how to get around this. Until FA gets around to the changes they promised were a high priority years ago, which at this point seems doubtful, I might have to do something awkward like the second option. Anyone else have thoughts, though?

Like "A stay in a squirrel. 4m" in the name. Wouldn't take up too much space. ^^
Why not tell it with the picture in the thumbnail?
You could use a sketch or doodle for shorter audio tracks, and a full color image for longer audios that you put a lot of time into.
[title] (type) - length
So, for example:
[KANGAROO POUCH HOME] (POV AUDIO) - 5:00
I would create tags/folders for both of them! And then label in the title of each one. I usually do something like prefixing to the start of the title what type of image/grouping the submission is in. I don't think length is important, as you've said that length doesn't necessary reflect the work involved!
So maybe something like "[Doodle] Squirrel Noms" or "[POV] You go gurgle"! I dunno, just an idea that's seemed to work for me. XD
