Designing an AI character is hard.

Another missive addressed to you - with an all too familiar seal on the envelope. News? Musings? Prototypes? Who's to say; idle speculation will hardly benefit you here. It breaks open easy enough, the lettering glowing as it usually does, owing to his spellcraft. So: what's on his mind...? I've been trying to design a companion for Mercury for a while now, sort of an AI kind of deal with a "main body" -- for this, I've been taking huge inspiration from 
fluff-kevlar's ARA and Warning, but even then I don't really know where to start with the actual design itself. It already took me 7 years just to make Mercury anthro, I ain't ready for this!
Anyone have some advice...?
