Am I just old fashioned?

So, I've got an MP3 player. A cheap, shitty little thing. I've been adding music to it by using it as a USB drive and just copying files over. Today, I was trying to add an audio version of The Sleeper Awakes by H.G. Wells, but I'm having a hard time getting the files in order. My player will only list songs as sorted by their date modified, and they're all out of order.
So I figure, well crap, I guess I'll have to just sync this thing up with Windows Media Player.
So I start up WMP and it's like LET ME ADD ALL YOUR MUSIC TO YOUR MP3 PLAYER! =D and then proceeds to do so, without really asking me first. Fortunately I only have a few random songs in my My Music folder, so it doesn't do much.
See, that's another thing. I pretty much eschew the My Documents folder and its ilk. I keep my art, music and videos in my own folders. Why? I don't know. It would make my life easier. Every program assumes I keep everything in My Documents, and when prompted to open a file always starts there.
I just ... I don't know. I just do it to be contrary. It annoys me how Windows assumes I keep stuff there, and that annoyance FEEDS ME.
But anyway! WMP gets my audio book files all nice and organized, then tries to add my My Music stuff AGAIN, and I have to stop it, and then I notice it's put everything into two nice little annoying subfolders on my player, and I'm like, damnit, quit holding my hand! Stop ASSUMING. Do I really need a "music" folder on my MP3 player? Especially when what I just added ISN'T MUSIC AT ALL?
I don't know. I just ... I don't know!!

Viva la revolution!
All my important shite is on a totally seperate drive even.
But I do understand what you mean xD It's like, the fact that they provide a place for me to put my files means I CAN'T USE IT because that's what all the normal users do, all the riffraff and mothers in their 40s and such. I don't want that to be me, so, I save elsewhere.
iTunes isn't much better unless you turn off the 'be retarded' checkboxes.
Winamp supposedly manages this shit, but I haven't tried it.
In all likelihood, your audiobook tracks are just missing the track # ID3 tag. You can change that easy enough with a variety of free programs online, or using winamp/foobar/the like.
During install, it'll want to install a metric TON of extras. I don't let it do that, you might want to think about the same.
Good luck, and enjoy!

I still don't use Documents for documents though. Fuck that. :P
If I were to get an MP3 player, it might be nice not to have as much stuff lying around, but I'm attached to the security of tangible ownership, especially when software and music companies think they can do any damnfool thing they want to your files without your consent.
Rip music with WMP, store it your own way. Drag and drop onto a player. That's what I do.
The music player I use is actually a Nintendo DS with a flash card. I love that thing so much.
