Hey! So, As many of you are aware- and for those of you who aren't- FA has recently updated the AUP regarding several issues on what is considered acceptable to upload to the site. As of this journal, there's a link up there at the page header if you need to read up. I had a few questions and concerns regarding these changes and posted a journal about a week ago looking for answers. Well, the admins have finally gotten back to me and I have my answers.
As stated in my previous journal, although I don't agree with the policy changes as a whole, I can understand their reasoning and I also appreciate that this isn't my site. I just post here and share some good times with you lovely folkes.
Some folkes aren't so lovely, sad to say. Some folkes are pretty much jerk-salad with a side of douche-nozzle and they want to cause some shit-times for others. So we have to have rules that we can all agree to so we can all get along and try to have those previously mentioned good times.
But then new things will always come up. No matter how well we think out the rules new situations and circumstances that we hadn't considered creep into the mix. When that happens we have to be mature enough to come to the table and agree to new rules. Sometimes those rules don't seem to be fair -or just flat-out aren't- and that always sucks. That's when we have to keep talking, expressing our concerns in a responsible fashion to enact the positive change we hope to see in the world.
Compromise, folkes. The essence of diplomacy. You can just give the site the finger and leave every time you don't like it or you can work with everybody and try and see how much we can accomplish together.
All that said, I'll be deleting the last journal, since I got the 411 I needed. Thank you SO Super-dupes much to all you great folkes that replied and gave me your input. I met a few new faces and got some new insights I hadn't considered. Unfortunately, having those answers means I'll have to be going back through my gallery once again to make sure it's in compliance with the AUP as it stands now. This means I'll have to be altering/censoring a few images and outright removing a few others. For those of you this upsets, I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I'm not too happy about it either.
Again- I don't agree with these changes but that's part of what it means to live in the world. If you want to have a relationship of any stripe, from spending your life with that special someone to just working with that one hairy fellah at the deli that talks to himself and picks shit out of his beard while chopping the ham, it's a give and take. If you can't accept that, you're gonna have a pretty unhappy and probably lonely existence.
In the meantime, I'll keep pushing for a few things in my own little way and while we all have the time together, let's try and enjoy it.

Am I just being paranoid do you think? I really want to hope that I am, that things will never go that far. But it really does feel like we are slowly heading into a dark age of censorship.
When I have to either turn on the SFW feature or pull out the tweezers to not be buried under images of rape, gore and torture-porn, I don't think that the site is in any danger of the conservative apocalypse.
Though this is why we have these discussions with the admin team, as I stated.
As a side note, I commend you from having the energy and will to sift through your gallery to make it compliant. I'm no artist, but I know my lazy ass would not sift through years of postings to make sure everything was in compliance. Looking through thousands of files... *shudders at the thought*
Guess I'll have to be more careful as I slowly uploads all of my commissions, although I don't think any of them runs afoul of any rules here on FA as of today.
On the subject of "Content Involving Real Hate Groups or Terrorist Organizations", I've had to alter 5 images so far and despite my best creative efforts, delete one outright. There's one more left that I'll still have to alter this afternoon.
On the front of "content involving minors" three of the four I showed them were deemed to be "acceptable". The one which was considered "unacceptable" I've already altered. *sighs unhappily* Thank you for the compliment, Tam.
However, this all comes at a very bizarrely coincidental time, as Sanita and I had been discussing our own nudity in front of Edgar, quite literally the day before the admins raised the updated AUP. By whatever cosmic coincidence I had just been thinking about it, some of the people who had argued with me about it in the past- parents, their children and nudity, personal privacy etc.- and I'd decided to make a comic or two about it. I was at the inking stage when all this came to a head. Now, that I've had to go through this biz, you can BET I'll be posting that comic as it appears to be a topic which needs some discussion here.
If I was paranoid, I would say that there are no coincidences! You felt it, somehow. ;) Looking forward to see that comic! ^^

I don't agree and I REALLY don't see it as sustainable, taken to what I'd consider it's logical end. An artist could make posts about "punching German WWII soldiers belonging to a group with a genocidal political ideology" but they're not allowed to use the name of or the symbols associated with the group.
But again, not bitching. Not my site. *shrugs and smiles*

I don't think we needed *new* guidelines to try to curb cub porn. Because that wasn't ever the problem.
The problem was that the existing guidelines weren't being enforced - there's rampant porn of minor characters with no attempt to age them up, but every time I've had to actually argue with the admin to get them to even acknowledge the character is a minor - ranging from obfuscating ignorance to outright head-scratchingly obtuse logic (like using another canon minor character as an example of adulthood)
I literally gave up on reporting because it's clear that this is one case where they didn't wanna do their job
The stuff about hate speech also didn't need an additional guideline because, again, the problem was stuff that *already* violated the current guidelines, but wasn't being enforced.
So, quite frankly, I think the only people who are going to be hurt by these guidelines are people like you - people who make innocuous art, or art speaking *against* hate speech, while the people who are the actual problem are going to continue to flaunt the guidelines with no consequence.
I'm sorry you've had to deal with that. I've heard similar stories from a few folkes on this issue, reporting violations of pornographic child art and admins either making excuses or outright refusing to follow through, even when confronted with a screencap or quotation of the CoC or AUP and citing precedent- examples of previous cases. The same goes for the artwork which has promoted hate groups. It really has seemed like it's a roll of the dice as to maybe which admin replies to the TT and if it will actually be handled or not. It seems a decision based more on lack of willingness to take a stand than anything.
All in all, I'd agree with your position. It's more than a little insulting, equating loving parents as being equivalent to child molesters and people who stand against real-life monsters as being equivalent to said monsters but more than that, it sadly supports that old paradox of "total tolerance". Spider-man punching a mugger isn't the ethical equivalent of the mugger punching Aunt May but that is effectively what the policy changes have established.
None of which is your fault and at no point would I even think it was anything equivalent to outright pedophilia.
At the same time there's artwork that *doesn't* have nudity that is very obviously fetishizing children, that will not nor ever will be subjected to these rules, no matter how much they're used to groom real life children.
The admins have really embarrassed themselves on this one with their total lack of effort, it seems. You could probably fill an entire page with just the links to all of this effluvium.
The furry fandom is rapidly gaining a reputation for being a place for hate groups to breed and find all the support they could ever desire and it looks as if FA is doing it's part to prove that very true.
This is some bullshit, frankly. Cowardly. Fucking, Bullshit. It's bad enough to take the chicken-shit stance of sitting on the sidelines and pissing off everyone just a little rather than have some fucking balls and tell the racist conservative shits to fuck off, they're not welcome in this fandom. However, *she bristles, the thorns of her body protruding* they're NOT even doing that. Just a quick search for "nazis" on this site brings up hundreds of images- the usual rapey "sexy nazi" sick shit, straight-up pro-nazi garbage, they're NOT doing a fucking thing besides penalizing the artists who will care enough to follow the rule.
...and I thought being in the HOSPITAL was fucked up...
